  I was listening to one of my cassettes from the 70's/80's (I think) and came across a song by PS/SPB(?) which sounded more like a Hindi song because of the usage of many Sanskritized words, and soft sounds like sha, ja, sa, shree etc. I enjoyed the song because it was different. Would like to know movie, MD etc. Start of the song:
  Saaranga dhaaraa sangeedha haaraa
  Shyaamalanae vadhanaa

  I think you are talking about a MV/PS duet from the movie " Ponnukeththa Purushan" tuned by
  IR and lyrics by Gangai amaran. This movie also had another nice song " Maalai Nilave" by Mano & Chitra. More knowledgeable sources please confirm.

  By the way, in your earlier query about songs,
  you wanted to know the movie of the song
  "Kanavil nadantha thOr kalyAna Orvalam" -
  I thought it was from "Kalyana Orvalam" - that
  is wrong - the correct answer is
  "anubavam puthumai" by SMS.

  Thank you for the info on the old "kanvil Nadandhadhoa" song. I've never seen the movie, and used to wonder what the setting of that song was because of the music.
  "Saaranga dhaaraa" is a Thamizh song which was intentionally made to sound non-Thamizh for reasons unknown (to me).

  Thank you. My cassette also has that "Maalai nilavae manmadhan kann padum azhagae" song you mentioned.
  Do you know which movie "Moongil ilai mael irukkum muthu mani tharagayaoa" is from? SPB/PS, I think.
