  listen to his wonderful songs from nammavar, and his latest album azhagE unnaik kaadhalikkirEn (i believe the movie is not yet released). i've always felt that his work was not given its due recognition. IMO, his most outstanding song was "udaiyOdu pirakkavillai" from nammavar.

  I agree. When I saw the film way back in '96-97, I was smitten by its music. Especially the songs 'UdayOdu PiRakkavillai, UNarvOdu PiRandu VittOm' and 'Poonguyil PAdinAl', though the former appeared as a 'bit' number. I went ahead and bought the album and have never regretted it.
  I was told that an engineer by profession, Mahesh suffered a lot in his personal life, (he was waging a battle against cancer).
  I am so glad he has fought back and is making what he's good at: Music (be it for films or jingles). Here's wishing him all success.
  
  Talking of Mahesh, whatever happened to IR's favorite violinist, V. S. Narasimhan? He compoosed some great numbers in Achamillai Achamillai, Pudhiyavan and the not-so-old Revati-Arvind Swamy starrer, 'PAsa MalargaL'. Where is he? My heart bleeds when mediocrity succeeds (S A Raj Kumar, Sirpi, to name a few) and true talent goes unnoticed. VSN had a great chance of becoming IR's true blue successor.
