  I think he has maintained his quality throught with IR as well as ARR. I think when he was with Raja, he had to work really hard.. hece there was lot of 'Viyarvei" (sweat) in his songs.. Looks like he sits in AC rooms now so it has reduced a lot !!
  
  I think songs like Kannukku Mai Ezhuthu in Pudhiya Mugam and songs in Iruvar still reflect his poetic talents.

  Ramani, the talent is there! But why should he write"sindhum vervai theerthamaagum" and the like?
  Kannadhasan's lyrics contained more virasam but they were so well presented! But what the so called "kaviyarasu" vairamuthu gives nowadays is prod/dir/md's demand under duress. Definitely his words are kochai now!!

  Pardon me for sounding anti-Vairamuththu.
  
  First of all, who started calling him 'kaviyarasu'? Can I start calling Kamal as 'nadigar thilagam', Rajini as 'puratchith thalaivar' and Raja as 'mellisai mannan'? There is one and only 'kaviyarasu' and it is Kannadhaasan. Vairamuthu may call himself so, but he knows he cannot become one.
  
  Coming to his songs. I accept that he has been maintaining his 'standard' throughout - i.e giving 1 good song for 10 dirty, perverted, meaningless songs. This has been the case ever since 'nizhalgaL'.
  
  It has to be accepted that songs like 'pon maalaip pozhudhu', 'iLaya nilaa', 'enna saththam indha nEram', 'andhi mazhai' were beautifully written. But we have to bear with perversions like 'andha nilaava thaan' (I do not want to explicitly mention the lines), 'poo malarnthida' (Tik Tik Tik) etc. I feel embarassed to mention the lines.
  
  It is also true that now, the ratio has become 1:20. 'en mEl vizhundha' (May maadham), 'puththam pudhu boomi vENdum' (thirudaa thirudaa) were really lovely. But meaningless phrases like 'kaNNeerum thiththikkindRadhE', 'echchil kooda punidhamaagumE', 'kaadhalE nimmadi', 'kaadhalukkup paLLi illai' and many more bring down the simplicity of the song.
  
  Many of his vulgar phrases are not fit mentioning in these page where a very great level of decency has been maintained so far. (Interested junta can contact me by mail!!)

  This is a meaningless debate.
  "Haloorige ulidhone Gowda!"
  This is a kannada language proverb. It means,
  in a deserted city, whoever remains is the king.
  As Aravind exactly pointed out how can we compare Vairamuthu with greats like Kannadasan and Vali.
  We should accept the fact that he was atleast recognised during the tenure of the great Raja.
  (Nizhalgal,Mudhal Mariyadhai etc)
  With Rehman's "DUBBA" music,the songs,words are never heard. So, dont worry -Vairamuthu or "Thagudumuthu" it will not make any difference.

  Really it is very sad that people now comparing vairamuthu with kannadasan, it is impossible for this vairamuthu to come upto kannadasan's level.
  Look at his lyrics in Duet, un kuntaluku seepaga irupen, un padathatuku serupaga..vitta un jacketuku buttonaga kudda endru he'll write, how dare people r comparing him with kannadasan.I accecpt he has given some good lyrics, but for that he can't even come near Kannadasan's foot.
  It this KB, Manirathnam ,Bharathiraja who made him as if he is very great(!!) in order to supress IR image and also to settle there personal score with IR they r boosting this vairamuthu like any thing.
  I read some 4 or 5 years back in thanamani one vairamuthu's interview, in that he told IR has totally destroyed TFM and he accused IR is the only reason for many english mixed words in TFM.
  God only will teach him good lesson. This guy vairamuthu is now thinking that he is the only lyricist in TFM now a days- vairamuthuvukku roomba mandagervam.

  Vairamuthu was Karantha Paal with Illayaraja and Packet milk with ARR. We don't have choice. He need to send fish to ARR's house every sunday for chances. He was a good lyricist. Now he is just running behind the money.
  Please read the following line. I feel very bad to write it here. But, no option.

  You can ask that why am I picking the worst of all. For a good Tamil Writer, there is a resposibility not to polute the language. We are bothered about language. After "Ellathapalam" kannadasan didn't write such a song at all. But he, said to be Kaviperarasu!
  Let ARR change his lyricist. His songs will be good.

  Vairamuthu is a good poet,but kannadhasan is brillient.These days the lyrics are sometimes funny and in most cases you don`t understand what the singers are singing, thanks to the revolution by ar rehman for introducing non tamil singers continously.When vairamuthu was working with maestro illayarajah he wrote a lot of sweat lyrics, which became great hits.But now thanks to the crap music of ar rehman he is been forced to write crap lyrics by the film producers.The vairamuthu-illayarajah combination is far superior

  This is a question which occurs frequently to
  me ! Which pair is good, Mr. Vairamuthu with Mr. Illayaraja or Mr.Vairamuthu with Mr. A.R. Rahman.
  
  First of all I want to clear something, to my
  opinion,
  
  Mr. Illayaraja lives with Music
  Mr. A.R. Rahman works with Music
  
  Suddenly in this midst of 91, few mouths began
  to talk about Mr. A.R. Rahman. Afterwards the whole world is talking about him after release of his Vandhe Madharam Album.
  
  
  Recently, in one of the function Mr. Vairamuthu
  spokes that, It is not surprise to have a village based song from Mr. IIIayaraja because he is from
  village. But Mr. A.R. Rahman puts a wonderful village tune in Mudalvan film even he is from city. I would like to tell to Mr. Vairamuthu that
  Mr. Illayaraja has also scored very well in western music eventhough he is from village. The tunes of western style from Mr. Illayaraja is
  uncomparable with Mr. A.R. Rahman's tune.
  
  Eventhough Mr. A.R. Rahman provides us a few
  wonderful music like Kadhal Rojave in his first
  film Roja, Ennavalie Ennavalie in Kadhalan etc.,
  but to me it is because of the voice of the singer
  which brings some beauty to that songs. But in
  case of Mr. Illayaraja he adds the voice of the
  singer to that music.
  
  To me, Illayaraja vairamuthu combination is the
  sweet days of tamil film industry whereas
  Vairamuthu and A.R. Rahman's Combination is that
  we are just relaxing under the tree on our path,
  but first combination is the part of our life.

  I am not sure if this site is meant for Cribbers !!.
  
  You and I do not have the talent that Vairamuthu, Kannadasan, Illayaraja or AR Rehman has. May be it is good to appreciate the good things they have done than to highlight and exaggerate the small mistakes that comes in its way. It is Occupational Hazard !!.
  
  Enjoy your life, Life is short and Sweet. Do not waste it by quarelling / Cribbing.
