raycas,
why i dont find ARR's music attractive?
I have been listening to only 2 classes of music for the past 15 years-TFM and WCM.of course ,the occasional foray into other varieties-but these have been my main ares of interest.only IR has satisfied my liking for complex scores and orchestrations-if you think ARR is in IR's league, well that is your opinion.as I have said repeatedly one man's noise is another man's music!I can write so much, since this is an ARR forum I will stop here. what i made in one of my previous posting was a honest impartial observation as to the resemblance of these songs to some other songs .

Hey Shashi
I guess ur the guy who runs the rahmanonline site .
Great review of PP.
I tend to agree with part of ur review regarding the classical/technical dissection of each song.
ONe little difference is that, while I tend to take the bedhams(changes in pitch, and the beat cycles) as not in harmony with the music.
So what seems to be (and is truly) innovation by ARR tends to jarr at times and my classical background doesnt accept it too well.
Anyway, you are entitled to your opinion and so am I.But kudos again to your review. Was truly a great read !
Keep reviewing !

JUST ONE WORD PP ALBUM IS "AMAZING"

PP just goes to prove that ARR is not a natural composer. Shades of spontaneous brilliance is missing.
Under the hood of expermentation or just doing a shruthi bedham one cannot go bonkers.
PP is a testament that group composition will not work.

Casual Observer, try a composition in mixed meters or just try singing a song in mixed meters in rhythm, then we will see who will go bonkers

Shashi, when i heard the athisayame thirumanam song, the first thing to strike me is not the tune, but the varying meters through out the song, that was indeed a difficult composition.

ARR doing a devar films with kamal and bachchan!!!!! do you think arr can come close to IR's devar films out of the world compositons like in Anbukku Naan Adimai, Annai Oru Aalayam and Ram Lakshman? Any ways??????

PP is musically superior to prior albums from ARR, IMO. But whether you like it or not is a different question. ARR is moving up the music scale to differentiate himself from the rest of the crowd which seems to have diluted his exclusivity by 'coopting' his style of composition. ARR is trying to set the bar higher ..and the challenge is to be still commercially successful/popular.

For those who do not get the link given above by Premkumar...here is the review.......(So now both Alavandhaan & PP have got bad reviews)
One would have expected a better offering from KB (K. Balachander) on his 100th movie, with a star cast comprising a hot Madhavan and ever popular Simran.
Paarthale Paravasam comes across as a damp squib and is a huge letdown considering the pre-release hype surrounding it. KB seems to have lost his touch.
The film lacks cohesion because of the terrible screenplay. Madhavan's Amul Baby personality is ill-suited for this role. His lack of talent is also exposed clearly.
This is the second consecutive film (after her earlier disaster 12B) where Simran looks awkward and ill-at-ease. She should probably stick to roles where she can expose herself. Obviously, acting does not suit her.
Hang on the nearest wall or something for support now. Because I am going to tell you what Madhavan's profession is in this film and you are going to shriek with laughter. Here we go. Madhava (Madhavan) is a doctor. But that is not all. He is also a movie star!!!! Hang on! I am not done. He is also the owner of a posh hospital!!!!!!
KB, have you lost it all, man? I know this is a movie but don't you think this is a little too much even for the silver screen?
It seems that Madhava is the only good looking guy in town because all the girls seem to chase him only. But, he will marry only the girl of his mom's choice (cho chweet).
Enter Simi (Simran). They get married. From here the story gets hackneyed. Enter Rekha, a friend of Madhavan from his medical student days. She is a doc settled in London and has a three year old kid.
The kid takes one look at Madhava's picture and yells 'Daddy'. So, Simran takes umbrage and divorces Madhava. Azhagu (Lawrence) licks his chops because he is in love with Simi and thinks he is going to finally land her as his wife.
But Madhava’s Periappa (Vaali) has different ideas and sets out to bring about a reconciliation. Meanwhile Sneha (as a nurse), is in love with Madhava and looks more sick (with a lost, suffering look) than any of the patients she looks after.
Will Vaali be successful? How will he do it? This forms the rest of the story.
The film is too lengthy without anything to hold the audience's interest.
Vivek is terrific and is the only saving grace of the film. How one wishes that directors utilise his talent.
A.R. Rahman's music is terrible. He must have been dozing while composing because you will also doze when you listen to the songs. The best thing to do would be to "Mute" your stereo system if you still want to listen to the songs. They sound much better then !!!
KB better pull up his socks or stick to television. He seems to be clearly confused about the target audience - a soap for TV or a film? He ends up with something which is neither palatable for the TV audience nor for the movie halls.
Bottom Line
Forget it.

2)Review of PP in sify.com - "The music of the film is worth a snore. Did A.R.Rahman really provide music for the film? There is not even a single number, which stays in your mind after you leave the hall."

The reviewr(s) couldnt find anything good in PP's music?? Good for them. I wonder why they wanna talk crap if they dont like (or understand is a better word??) PP's music. By the way, I came across the review for the music of Rahman's Chor Chor (thiruda thiruda) in the website www.planetbollywood.com . Read that review and be blessed. Here, even hard-core rahman bashers accept Thiruda-thiruda as a good album, and then we have this reviewer spewing crap like this. Here's the link for that review

I saw PP today. While the first half is definitely "paarthale paravasam", the second half is "paarthale padu mOsam". The half-hour climax in the marriage hall is the worst part of the movie. But the first half is really done well. Each frame has the typical KB touch. KB has spent considerable effort is having his punches delivered through out the movie and has done an incredible job, but has failed miserably in the climax.
When I listened to the songs, they sounded wierd initially, but they are a treat to listen to and watch on the screen. Love-check and Manmadaha maasam are songs that are dance-numbers for Lawrence who appears as an innovative dancer (who fuses western and classical dance) in the movie. ARR's songs coupled with excellent choreography (lawrence is too good - but he should stick to dancing only!) was great. Manmadha maasam had lawrence and `sangamam' vindhiya doing a fusion-dance. The songs have greatly helped bring the western-classical fusion dances to life. IMO, these two songs are one of the most interesting and innovative song-dance sequences in recent times.
Nee dhaan en desiya geedham has been shot in beautiful locales (malaysia?). The climax has the adisaya thirumanam song. The climax being the worst part of the movie, this song sequence, though done in colorful costumes, is quite inappropriately placed in the movie. Another grossly misplaced song is naadhir dhinna.. Though Lawrence dances well, it looked like an unnecessary, irritating addition. If you want to watch this movie, just see the first half and get out. In fact, the first half itself is worth the money you pay for the ticket.
