Hi,

I have a Raja songs which has been used in 2 movies...

En samayalo in Unaal mudiyum Thambi
same song - with same lyrics in
Manipoor mamiyar - Samyal paadam sung by Spb/Sp.Sailaja. - I will soon play it in my web site....
Can anybody find similar songs...

Same song #2:
Revathi's song in Mouna Ragam and in Punnagai Mannan.The songs are very identical in tune.I dont remember the exact starting of the song.

"Pon Maghal Vanthaal, Porul Kodi Thanthaal.." was an original TMS hit which was re-recorded for another movie with K.J. Yesudas (same lyrics, same tune, same music). At this time, I do not remember the name of either movie.

oora therinjukkittEn by KJY in padikkaadhavan and by MV in samsaram athu minsaaram (or one such visu movie). The lyrics were slightly diff. though. The tune was the same. The former was by IR and the latter by SG.
vaigaasi masathula by IR and the same tune in a Prabhu movie by SG. (more details anyone?)

The second version had music by S. A. Rajkumar , and figured in the movie "Perum puLLi".

The IR version was from "Ninaivu Chinnam". I dunno about the SG version.

Srikanth and others :
The song "Madhurai marikozhundhu vAsam" was used in the Telugu movie "Jagadeka veerudu athilOka sundari", which was later dubbed into Tamil as "KAdhal devathai". So, the song appeared in the same tune twice in Tamil.

The song "Chithirai chevvAnam" also was used in a much more recent period (sung by Mano this time) in some Murali starrer - Adharmam ???)

I remember more details.. the SG verison goes something like: vaikka varappukkuLLA.. the movie is uththama purushan starring Prabhu, Revathi and Amala.

I remember an MKT song - 'deena karunaagaranE nadaraaja'. There was a song very similar to it in Madurai veeran 'Echchu pozhaikkum thozhilE sarithaanA'. MD for both movies G. Ramanathan.

antharangam yaavume - 1000 nilave vaa (it became a duet in the dubbed version)
puthiya poovithu pooththathu - thendrale ennai thodu (it appeared I think in "surya ips")

Everyone knows Puththam puthu kaalai of Alaigal Oivathillei. Unfortunately the song never made it to the movie. The same tune was again used by IR in a movie called Africavil Appu (with an elephant being the hero :-)) Anyone remember the title of the second version also presented by S. Janaki?

The song I meant also have the same the lyrics!,
The Tune being repeated is a normal practice for Deva, AR - also for raja in few songs, but the lyrics!

srikanth: The songs Rajaram and I mentioned have exactly the same tunes.. that is certainly not a common occurance. We will try to stick with your definition though.
There was a version of 'manushana manushan saappiduraanda thambippayalE' in a Murali movie. It is one in the series of movies he made with a particular director, including paalam (with hockey Bhaskaran as villain) and puthu something, which had this song.

Manipur Mamiyaar was never released. So, IR used it again in unnal... A couple of examples I know:

1) Vaanam vazhthida, by SPB and SJ appeard in the first release of the album chinna mappillai but was not there in the movie. Nor in subsequent rereleases of the music. I found this song again in a Manirathnam movie called sangam (dubbed from Malayalam and released around the time Iruvar was, I think).

2) Oru ganam aayinum sung by Arunmozhi. Appears in the album (but not in the movie) en arugil nee irunthaal. It appears again in vanaja girija (movie but not the album). A beautiful song in Simmendramadhyam...

Actually the song in unnAl mudiyum thambi & maNipoor mAmiyAr differ both in tune & lyrics & orchestration. The differences are minor and for all practical purposes they can be considered the same.

The only MD that I am aware of, who has repeated entire songs (tune, i.e.) is Raja. In Telugu, he used the same tune (for the entire song) in "Anveshana" (Dir by Vamsi and *ing Kartik and Bhanupriya) amd "Abhinandana" (Dir by Ashok Kumar and *ing Kartik and Shobana). He also done the same thing for a song in "Stuartpuram Police Station" (*ing Chiranjeevi) and "Vaarasudochhadu" (*ing Venkatesh, Suhasini).

Now that's something..

Thank you for giving the name of the second movie
in which "Ponmaghal Vanthaal" (PERIYA PULLI/S.A. Rajkumar/K.J. Yesudas) was used. The original version was sung by TMS for Sivaji Ganeshan under the music direction of MSV. Does anyone remember the name of the movie? BTW, the second version was identical to the original in every aspect except the singer.

I think you're referring to the director named Karvannan, and the only other movie he directed besides "Palam" is "Pudhiya Katru" (*ing Murali).

The song in Uyarndha Ullam goes like "Enna vENum thinnungadA dOi, ishtam pOla vettungadA dOi" !!!

The info about "tune reuse" by IR is very interesting. Surprising to hear that IR is using the same tune in the same language in quick succession !

Talking of lyrical reuse, I think a lot of Bharathiar songs have figured in many movies with different tunes. An example, probably would be "Chinnan chiru kiLiyE kannamma" from Needhikku Dhandanai...

The short song "Thirumagal un mugam kana vendum" was originally scored for Veera ... it eventually did not make it to the screen and so was reused in a Keyar movie (Vanaja Girija?).

I don't remember for sure, but there is a song from Rajadhi Raja (Nenjam something), which was reused in a Vijaykanth movie

I know of a couple of malayalam songs that
are exact copies of tamil ones.
1. veene veene -> (starting of the tamil song eludes me)
2. thumbi vaa -> sangathaal paadum (in a slightly

IR has repeated a song in a Malayalam movie called "OLANGAL". Again he gave the song in the Telugu movie called "Nireekshana". The song in Telugu is "Akasam Enathide Anuragam Aanathide".I beleive the same got repeated again in a Tamil movie "Kanne Kalaimane" directed by Balu Mahendra.

You are right about that. IR's song in Thaikku oru Thaalaattu was a kind of a nostalgia-fest (deliberately invoking the old tun) as Sivaji and Padmini acted in this film after a long time.

hi guys
The song Theendi theendi in Bala by YSR has been already composed by IR in a very old Hindi Movie starring Sridevi
It goes like Rhim Rhim hai jaloon sung by Asha Bhonsle and Suresh Wadkar.
YSR has conveniently lifted the tune from his father's movie.I trying to find out the name of the movie
