This is a spur-of-the-moment idea, after I saw
the not getting "thenpaandi singam", KM cd's, in
a different thread.
I guess most of these releases will be available
in singapore, so it should not be a big problem
getting cassettes/cds you want mailed to you.
(The problem is in money payments, but I have
thought of a strategy already.)
Will you be interested if we open a web store as
part of TFM page? Here you'll be able to just
click and buy cds/cassettes 24 hrs, 7 days a week.
What we want to do is: Sign a contract with a
decent music dealer, pass orders from TFM page
and ask them to mail it to you.
As has always been, TFM Group doesn't want to
make money here. It's a small service(if any)
that we want to do to TFM community.
Whoever is reading this: PLS POST A REPLY.
yes/no will be enough, if you can write in length.
Thanks.

Rajaraman,
The idea is good, but I don't understand how you can run something like this without worrying about profit?
I think, you are essentially saying that TFMpage is going to create a web page for one dealer (who ever that is going to be). With a list of all soundtracks that this dealer carries.
If not, then you probably meant that TFM page will have a list of ALL movies of TFM. We can select any film from the list and the dealer will guarantee that he will get the movie.
From what I have heard, the second option is very risky. It is not cost-effective at all for a dealer. Usually they deal in bulk. I can't see any dealer ordering just one movie from a distributor (say in India) and mailing it to someone, say, in US. The guy has to close shop pretty soon - or the burden is going to fall on the customer (high priced cassettes and CDs). I have heard that to get one (say, "thenpaandi singam") CD the dealer has to order some 50 other CDs so that he can get a shipment delivered.
Also getting bound (by a contract) to one dealer is also a problem. No competition. No negotiations on prices!
Also, you said TFM maintenance group is not interested in profit. You can guaranteeing clientele for a dealer. How can you not take advantage of this situation? The dealer has to become a sponsor of the tfmpage.com.

Just some of my random thoughts..

Satish,
you have answered your questions by yourself.
Yes.. we want the seller to become a sponsor
for us during the contract period. Assuming
the deal materialises, we might even think
of upgrading to a even better server, perhaps a
dedicated SUN Ultra. : )
I'm not interested in hosting a
webpage for the dealer, without any profit
motive. It'll be more like a routing service
on behalf of TFM net community.
Apart from latest CD's, we'll try to get you
old and not-so-commonly-available cassettes
too.
Of course, all this comes only if I can be
sure there is a market. I'm aware that there
are > 250 people (the count is > 3500 for
all the pages) accessing DF
pages every month. If about 50-100 become
prospective buyers, then I'll be able to convince the seller/dealer easily.
**It needs your support during the initial (tough)
period**. Once we are thru with this phase, then
the future will be great. If everything turns out
out way, I'll try my best to get discounts
on many cd's(especially on large orders).
My ultimate (rather ambitious) aim is to become
something as attractive as an amazon.com site.
Looking fwd to your support. Feel free to voice
your concerns, if there is any.

I don't know if anyone knows this but there is a pretty good list of tamil and other regional languages available for mail order at
http://www.webcom.com/raag/ind-cd.html
But it does take then some time to get the latest soundtracks on the list, but they all come in after a small wait usually. Check it out!

Anyone who has tried buying from Raag or H&M
like to share their experiences?
How much every CD finally works out to be?(actual+mailing charges). I feel the final
charge can be much lower if done thru singapore
money.
How long it takes to see the CD on hand after you
clicked the BUY button?
Any other comments?

Rajaraman,
It is great idea. if you find some one to sponser
this site, that would be really great..
Regarding ragg, I did buy lot of cds thruough
them. Usually It took two weeks to get my
cds, after I ordered them. But Browsing their site and finding the right cd is tedious task. I did find
that most of the cds, they dont have listing of all the songs. It is very difficult to buy a cd, if you
dont know the list of songs. I did ask them to
put more detail. There could be some practical problems in doing it. Anyhow I stopped completely buying assorted collections thru their web site.
They did have some promotions running, but usually it worked out around 12$ for single cd. if you want the actual figure, I can dig my old bills and find out for you.

Rajaraaman:
I have bought about 15-20 CDs from Raag, the customer service is excellent. I haven't had any problems either buying from them or with the quality of the CD's. I will pay around average $12 US dollars for a single CD. They also have a 1-800 Toll free number to place the orders. The only draw back at this place is since they can't predict how much demand is there for a particular CD they tend not to keep lot of CD's on the inventory, they order whatever CD we want at any point of time. Hence it will take typically one to two weeks to get the CD of your choice. Sometimes we might not get some CDs that are listed since the manufacturers would have stopped making those CDs.
As far as the money transaction goes with they are perfect and convienient, since they accept credit card over telephone.

Thanks for the response E.Hari, bhaskar and satish.
Basically I started this thread to do a kind
of "feasibility study". So far, not so bad.
Let me collect all the responses and think over.
If there is any other point, you are welcome
to post. If you feel that discussing here is a
bad idea, you can also email me.
