Whatever happened to Illayaraja's symphony?

  Following is the recentest mail I received from the editor of LIMA BOOK OF RECORDS .
  
  Looks like the Editor, Mr.V.Ghose had actually met IR in Chennai recently and was told that the Symphony is to be released shortly -
  but how soon is a big question mark ?
  
  Now, I suggest/insist that all of us bombard VGhose with e-mails and force him to get the probable date of release of the Symphony.
  Do it fast guys, I am not going to keep quiet until I seen some light at the end of the Symphony tunnel .

  I hope by now you have received the message that Illayaraja's symphony is not yet released. I think there were some legal complications bt I am not sure. He says it should be released shortly.

  I have not alone sent mail to Ghose, but also to editors of Vikatan/Kumudham. I will be writing to editors of rediff/hindu and others. I think this might work. Tell them sharply how anxious we are to hear, let alone the symphony, at least a concrete news abt it.

  Chandy, MPR: that is the inside source at Prashad. IR want to release all five at the same time. It seems he composed one in each year since 1993. I don't know how much is true but I believe that is why IR did not release one at a time if felt he might be discouraged with the response for the first one. Another belief: he will release the symphonies
  through his own new recording studio by inviting the RPO to perform in Chennai. It is clear that he wants publicity and more money. So, watch out for this as soon as his recording studio opens.

  it seems that in a program in OLI, it was said that "many of the important conductors and composers in London Philharmonic have told that
  what raja has composed is not a symphony at all. the scores have various flaws!..that is

  Didn't the conductor who conducted Raja's score praise Raja to high heaven at that time? Wasn't he from RPO as well? What's this new twist?
  
  Anyway, even if it cannot be classified as a 'symphony', it will still be good music. Why can't someone put it on a CD and release it?
  
  I think the problem is not what bb has mentioned here. May ne someone can clarify further.

  This stuff about the symphony is as vague as the symphony itself :
  
  who said it ?
  does he have first-hand knowledge ?
  'many' : how many
  'important' : which are the orchestras and who are the conductors and composers who said that ?
  (and who is more important than RPO who played the symphony?
  'various' : how many is various?
  'flaws' : name them
  
  'that it was not released, it cannot be released' : do these people own the copyright ?
  
  Symphony is not a rigid form : there are many variations. Beethoven's no 9 was the first and probably the only one to include a choral finale, while Mahler's symphonies are black to Haydn's white. Hector Berlioz's Symphony Fantastique was not a symphony at all - it is a 'symphonic poem'.
  
  
  Raja's symphony has not been released at all - dishing it without hearing it is as bad as parasing it without hearing it.
