Why do film songs carry a standard pattern - prelude, pallavi, anupallavi, pallavi, interlude1, stanza1, pallavi, interlude2, stanza2, pallavi, anupallavi, pallavi.
I have asked myself a few questions- Why did this pattern come to practise? Who started it? can anyone help me?
There are also a few songs which doesn't follow the basic structures. I have listed a few songs which has no interludes. You can add yours to the list.
1. En Uyire - Uyire
2. Satham illadha - Amarkalam
3. Sa Ri Ga Me - Boys
4. Moham ennum - sindhu bhairavi

there's one wonderful song in "Sigaram"... which goes "Unnaik kanda pinbudhaan" which has two versions by Chitra and SPB... surprisingly, same lyrics but both are of kinda different tunes... no interludes.. only the dolak... one of the songs which had least instruments used.
by the way, does any1 have the mp3 link for the song?

Yes Vj, SPB has mentioned in an interview that for that song, he has used only 2 instruments - harmonium and dholak.
The song "Raasaathi yen usiru ennadhilla" from "Thiruda Thiruda" is also a song with literally no instruments. Only chorus as the backing. But, when the saranam ends (kadalai kaattu kulla), I doubt he has used bass alone in that song. Good effort!
