Eras of IR.

  One of my friends tells me that IR's style underwent an abrupt change in 1986! He quotes a lot of examples, one of his favourites being kadOlara kavidhaigaL. He says it belongs to the new style which doesn't appeal to him at all. He talks of other songs in the same year which are in the old style. Old style is more importance to melody. More new tunes and less of reworking. More fresh. etc..
  My wife tells me that IR's style changed after 1983! She likes songs before that period more consistently than after that!!!! I tested that by playing some offbeat old songs to her and some new ones too. enakku puriyavE illai.
  My opinion is IR's golden age is from 80-90. I cannot detect any abrupt changes in style or anything.. or atleast cannot pin point a year and say that styles changed in that year. Any other differing opinions on this.

  I think he attempted some kAlanAvukku prayOjanam illAdha music in
  sagalakala vallavan, then tried a similar thing in vikrOm vAngrOm; overall
  it should be considered a metamorphosis. Any conceivable (to me)
  change in his style was apparent only from around the period of araNmaanik kiLi.

  He did change his style time to time, but
  it was smooth. Like Arul said there was
  a sharp change during AaranmanaiKili,
  sathi leelavathi etc.

  My favourite decade was from 1977 to 1987. I think that it was during this period that he gave his best.
  
  His greatest metamorphis came after the entry of ARR.
