To regain fame IR should talk like a musician at press interviews. He thinks he is a great philosopher and talks non-sense. That is why no one dares to interview him. A typical inter view session is given below:-
PRESS: When did you begin to show interest in music ?
IR. Why you want a beginning for everything when you cannot foresee the end ?
PRESS; No, Sir, I meant your music schooling.
IR: Music do not exist in schools.
PRESS: (Sigh) O.K. What is your best composition ?
IR: Music is devine where the Jeevathma joins the Paramathma, hence there is no worst or best in
music ! (Whatever the heck it is !)
PRESS: What do you think about classical, pop and fusion music ?
IR: There is no division like that in music !
The 7 swaras make music. (As if no one knew this)
Don't differentiate as classical, Pop and fusion!
PRESS: (EXASPERATED) Then why the hell there are these classifications ?
IR: In the realm of Paramathma the OM sound itself is the ultimate music.
PRESS: o.k., o.k. O.K. --- what do you want to tell the readers as a Music Director ?
IR: I know neither Music nor I am a Director, in fact I want to be a conducter (in a bus ?) of the God given swaras in a devine fashion which may be called by you as music , but i think that they are like the petals of flowers offered to the divine trinity of omnipotent music..blah...blah...
PRESS; ( If i continue with this non-sence, I will get mad) O.K. Raja Sir, that gives a composition of your mind set. I will take leave.
It is said that a barber should mind his business, he can sing in the bathroom but not while cutting the hair.
IR will do well if he stops his philosophical outbursts and concentrate on his music.

Why should he regain his fame? He has had enough. Let the current crop of MDs (his sons included)try to give even half of the quality, consistency he has given for 25 yrs.BTW, velji , why don't u ponder about why there is still clamour for his late 70's/ 80's melodies, why there is a huge fan base inspite of his too well known bad PR skills, foot in the mouth disease etc?

Velji,
its obvious you hit upon the perfect formula for fame - reproduce the same crap in thread after thread, hoping to be appreciated from worse crapsters.
Whoa, this surely must be the highest point of your career!

Velji,
IR fans know all about IR. Half of what you have said is your own crap. Your tiny pea brain couldn't comprehend what he meant. Ilayaraja still has his Fame. A genius is always a genius. People who love music know that. Just for those who live on the other world can't see it (I mean you!). For 25 years there was no one to challenge his work. Even at this age he shows his quality in Pithamagan. Can you imagine that from your favourite MD's when they become 60?? Now, who needs concentration?? First listen to his 70's and 80's. It will take you years to listen to them all but take your time and then come back to TFM, if you really want to talk about his music. OK?

My Dear Mythila and X,
Mythila has correctly pointed out that IR lacks PR skills that is what I am pointing out. As both Mythila and X has stated his early compositions are memorable , no doubt. I think in the whole film music industry no one has surpassed the melody IR composed for the song "ooru sanam thoongiduchi - ootha katrum adichiruchi, Paavi manam thoongaliye ...."
But PR skills ? a big zero !!!! He will regain his fame if he stops pretending a "philosopher'

Hi! velji
I am unable to understand you. On the one hand you criticse and apprecaiate on the other ! You must be a crack genius! Because you have rightly pinpointed the greatest of all Raja's hits "ooru sanam thoongiruchi - ootha katrum adichiruchi, Paavi manam thoongaliye ...."

Not taking any sides here. But to be fair to velji, he never questioned or criticised IR's musical genius. Everybody knows about it. What he was pointing out is his poor PR skills and his unwanted exaggerated (from a film MD) philosophical lectures when interviewed.
But velji....probably thats why you hardly see his interviews in any newspaper or mags or TV . But if thats the way he wants to live, why bother him ???? His philosophical talks irritate only when they go and intvw him, right ? Stop doing that.. and you'll never hear anything other than his music.

"IR will do well if he stops his philosophical outbursts and concentrate on his music "
Actually, I dont have any right to ask him to concentrate on this or that. But IMHO, his best music came before he took up all this aanemeega stuff. There might be some who argue about his great numbers in recent times (still after he went into aanmeegam) ..but those are tiny droplets when compared to those monster hits he composed in his pre-aanmeega days. I can still remember they way he used guitar, violin like nobody else in Indian FM in those days. Very few numbers in recent past. They say that some of the best songs, compositions of some composers were possible only during their troubled times (bcos thats when they attempt find peace / harmony through music). But if you get peace of mind and attain a balance , you dont strive to get that in your music.
I'd say that it is his fans' loss that they didnt get that kind of great music in this decade.

Dear Maverick
You have rightly said that his best compositions were before his experimentations with "Aanmeegam"
(Spiritualism) Since his attention was diverted into this infinite subjec, he was not able to do full justice to his compositions. Well done Maverick
you are the kind of analytical men needed for this forum instead of plainly abusing the critic.
Keep it up. I will watch your remarks in other subjects also.
