dear dfers, everybody seem to support arr giving liberty to his singers to sing freely with variations, this is not signs of a good composer,a composer is one who knows what is being composed and expects to be perfect to his notes.imagine what would have happened if bach and beethoven had let their players play to their creativity instead of the notes given ,we would not have had all the classics, these are classics bcos they are performed as written,in my humble opinion raaja is the only true composer in tfm,do you agree to this viewpoint, get real......shysun.

If a performer can improve the composer's ideas and make the music sound better, then he or she should be allowed to.
On the other hand, if composer's ideas are too good to improve upon, they stay!!

mmm..in my opinion "no"..In western classical music there's little room for improvement as they perform as a very big group and improvisation from one individual will not be visible..
Coming to our TFM i think IR gave room for singers to improvise..SPB,Janaki,KJY has done it in n number of songs..May be he is strict in orchestration..heard abt him that he never leaves anyone till he gets what he wants..But that does not mean that he never allows improvisation..
According to ur view for a musical output all the credit should go to the MD.But it is a team effort.Improvisation makes it more beautiful..but that improvisation should be in a proper way and should be accepted by the composer..
Not only ARR,any MD will try his best to make the song look good.So no terming like "Good Composer" or "Bad Composer"..
In my opinion improvisation comes mostly from singers(it is more visible to the ordinary listeners)..Has any one felt improvisations made by instrumentalists??Sadly i couldnt figure out any.
If i am a MD and if i have the confidence in my singer or instrumentalist i give them freedom to improvise..thats it..
Good composer or Bad composer will be decided by TIME..
All IMVHO.
