Has anyone heard of any soundtrack of any Indian film available just like a Hollywood movie soundtrack album? I vaguely remember Radio Ceylon Tamil Chevai always play in their evening Malayalam "Maarivillu" programme a fantastic Indian movie score. It is the best of all soundtracks I have ever heard. I believe it was by R D Burman. I am not sure. But can someone confirm this please and also tell us if they know of any such soundtracks available in cassette/LP/CD? I have a feeling that the Maestro Isaignani will definitely have the Marudanayagam soundtrack available as an ALBUM. What do you folks think of this?

The Fan,
"SATYA-The Sound" is supposedly the BGM of the RGVerma's movie magnum.

Lets be clear about music.
KM's songs are good but did u guys listen to the filmscore(underscore/background
music/incidental music)?
Throughout the whole film, did u guys notice how bloody good the filmscore was?? Well, it
was really brilliant & beautiful. Now, apart from being a maestro for song tunes, IR is also the
champion in creating powerful/emotional/riveting/gripping music underscore. Till now, no one
even comes close to him in indian music world.
I did read somewhere that when IR toured england he visited Abbey Road studios where the
hollywood music maestros Jerry Goldsmith & John Williams frequently record their scores. It
seems that IR (like myself) is a big fan of their music as well & has very high regards for these
two kingpins. But in my listening experience of all their music, IR has never plagarized or let
them influence into his own composing styles.
Now, see the English movie 'THE OMEN'(music by J Goldsmith) & then see ARR's
'ROJA'. Again see the recent english film 'THE GHOST & THE DARKNESS'(music by J
Goldsmith) & then listen to the songs in ARR's 'JEANS'.
Get the drift??
Now that is ILAYARAJA!!!!....way to go SIR!!!!!

Do you think IR can come up with a theme score like Maurice Jarre's most famous work for the movie 'Lawrence of Arabia'?
In my opinion, this is a chance for IR to focus on a real classic soundtrack instead of giving songs. Kamal should note this suggestion, somehow. Just like Kalapani, how songs did not go well with the movie, I think Marudanayagam is meant to be a serious movie for IR to work out the best ever MOVIE THEME SCORE EVER IN THE HISTORY OF ALL MUSIC OF ALL TIME, PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE.
If you have Kamal' website, I will present my suggestion. When the movie has an all international star cast, I think IR should ignore all pleas for songs and himself recommend THEME SCORE. This way international audiences can be enthralled not by songs for which they have very little basis to accept, but by a really devastating and typical IR effort. I am saying because I am just hearing Raja's first Hindi movie effort and the orchestration to this day I have never heard from anyone in this world.

I recently watched Gladiator on DVD. It had some sections on how the music was scored. Though the music was not great (reminded me of Last of the mohicans, which I liked) I learnt a lot about how BGM is scored in Hollywood movies. The whole movie is divided into 43 themes or something. This is possible because the screenplay itself is laid out that way (say 43 situations). Also, some 'themes' keep repeating eg. the hero is a farmer by tradition but has taken up the sword for the Roman empire. So whenever he passes by a field or feels the crop in his hands a particular theme is repeated. This kind of meticulous movie-making is not being done in Tamil movies. Whenever such work is undertaken IR has never failed to rise upto the occasion (eg. nayagan, siraichAlai,bArathi etc). I am also looking forward to soundtracks from say, pAndavAs.

Good point, Kiru. By the way folks, isn't it Karthik Raja who is supposed to be composing the music for "Marudhanaayagam"?

no its ir for maruthunayagam.
i heard this reg. the delay in releasing HR bgm. I believe the whole score has be modified a bit (mixing, setting the levels etc) to suit personal music systems.(the bgm was mixed for theatres).IR asked kr to do it for him but kr simply doesn't have the time!
