Kamal as a singer...

What does the guys here feel about Kamal as a singer? I was hearing to the song "Ninaivo Oru Paravai". IMHO, Ilayaraja has done a lot of tricks like stereo panning to make Kamal's voice sound better. What do you think?

PS: SPB would be the ideal choice for this song, I feel.

  I personally think Kamal's voice fits him perfectly. Any one's own voice in singer would fit that person only. The songs that he sung in Thenali and Anbe Sivam fitted perfectly. And as for people trying to do something they can't, some actors have the capabilities to convert their acting skills to directing. And as for singing, singers can turn into a music director easily, if they have the talents.

  I feel kamal is a good singer if he doesn't try some innovation and sings in his own voice...for example the song "ninaivo oru paravai" is kewl...but hez tried to do some gimmicks in "pottu veitha kadal thittam" from singaravelan whihc sucked big time...and also some horrible song from panchanthanthiram( he does some "aaa ooo") n stuff

  he is only singing for himself..(except for Ullasam)..
  
  it is only to make the song sounds for lively...for realistic.....or else..
  
  u will be hearing hero like Simbu's voice..suddenly singing in SPB voice!!!????!!!!

  can anyone sing the "kadavul Pathi" song better than him....to suit the character....

  Even the great Dr KJY mentioned in an interview that Kamal had sung very well for that song..though my favourite is "thenpandi seemaiyeeley" from nayagan, "Kathal piriyamal" from panchathanthiram is very well rendered by the Universal hero...

  Kamal is a wonderful singer. Kaathal Piriyaamal was sung really well and Anbe Sivam too. And how abt Salaam gey Ram from HeyRam along with his daughter. Kamal sure is an excellent singer.

  I think Kamal is a very talented person. His singing is good too. The song Rukku Rukku from Avai Shanmughi shows what else he could do to his voice. The song was very well sung to sound like an old lady. What other tfm male singer can change their voice and sing to sound like an old lady?

  Why do people have to feel that Kamal is trying to be a singer, like most professionals [English - Eddie Murphy, Nicole Kidman, Gwenyth Paltrow, Hindi - Amitabh] , he is trying to do songs only when needed. When he feels that a particular songs if sung by him, will get the right kind of response. For e.g. Nayagan, Hey Ram, Anbe Sivam, etc.
  
  If the same songs were sung by anyother singer it would have been just another song, but because it was sung by Kamal they had the necessary cinematic touch and effect. Try to picture the songs with the movie, u will see the change.

  Mr Genius, a talented singer should be able to sing like anybody [ old man/woman, young man/woman]. There should be no age bar in doing so.

  This is a bad trend in TFM, I mean heros "pretending" to also be BG singers, it sucks. Most of the time, MDs have to tweak their synths a lot (like add reverb, chorus or delay) or plain simply dull their voice track so that the music is more predominant.
  
  Except for Vijay I'm still not able to find a good actor who can sing well (and Vijay does not even dare to sing songs that don't fit him)
  
  Examples of Electronix at work:
  
  1. VaaEndraduUlagam: Parashanth - Heavy Music drowning his voice
  2. Any Kamal Song: Kamal - Full of gimmicks by MDs and his creativity with SYNTH (Some body mentions "Kaathal Piriyaamal Kavithai Thondraathe Kavivinn Thiru-yeathille - Panchanthiram") how pathetic.. just imagine those lines in SPBs' voice
  3. The song mentioned in the topic "Ninaivo Oru Paravai" - I happened to hear in a auditorium on high class mastering equipment. Mottai has tried his level best to decrease the breathing sounds and it sounded like YUCK!!
  
  Kamal definitely sucks at singing guys, accept it and don't encourage such people.

  I have to agree with some that Kamal mostly sings somgs which suits him and his character , and ninaivo oru paravai is great song .
  According to most here , if every song has to be sung by SPB and unnikrishnan then theres no variety .
  
  and Musician , you're saying that kamal sucks but vijay can sing well .. thats unbelievable unless you're a hardcore vijay fan . I would say vijay sucks in acting as well as singing . again to each his own .

  Paran: I'm not trying to be a nattamai here. What I was saying was that if you listen to that song (which is in fact lovely lyrics-wise), you can hear Kamal's voice shaking and not having the required pitch to render the song steadily. I wonder if it was Ilayaraja=Kamals' personal relationship that made him take this decision (of letting Kamal sing this song)
  
  Rest all songs' as outlined above are all junk (can be sung by anybody as far as I'm concerned...)
  
  That's was the whole point of this topic: Mediocre singers spoiling soulful music...

  It is interesting to see people complaining about
  Kamal's singing as if the singers out there are all of the calibre of SPB and TMS. Wondering if it is because he pronounces Tamil correctly and doesn't sing like the new wave of Hindi singers :-))
  
  His voice was shaky 20-25 years ago while singing high pitch songs but not anymore. I don't know if anyone can sing Singaravelan, HeyRam and Alavandaan songs as well as he did. Of course, we can nitpick with everyone and everything. Even SPB gasped for breath in the Keladi Kanmani song. Shall we dismiss that as junk?
  
  Musician, could you please list some non-junk songs.
