What are your picks for Mani-IR combo and Mani-ARR combo?

Well, I want to know your opinion on these two questions?

1)Which Mani Ratnam movie had the best Ilayaraja music?

2)Which Mani Ratnam movie had the best A.R. Rahman music?

I feel Ilayaraja gave his best to Mani Ratnam in Agni Natchathiram. Unforgettable songs with Raja setting a new trend in music. Mouna Raagam is a very close second. As for A.R. Rahman, I feel the best music he's given Mani is in Dil Se. I know many feel that it is Roja(which I would place a close second)but I enjoyed Dil Se more. Fantastic songs by Rahman. Well, what do you guys think?

  For the time i can remember Mani's movies have had some of the best soundtracks in tamil movies both working with raja and rahman.
  I have to say that agini natchathram is the best out of raja and mani combination. I saw the movie again just recently and they still sound good! Mouna ragam is second and thalapathy third.
  
  Now its the combination of mani and rahman and they have not disappointed.
  My favourite is Roja. Though i am sick of the tunes now (too much listening to it before) it still is my favourite. Alaipayuthey comes in second place with thridu thridu comming third.

  in my opinion, IR did a fantastic job with MR.I think ARR doesn't suits with MR's movie which needs a highly probable back ground music.only IR can concentrate on both song and BGM.ARR fails... what a dissappointment?!!!!!

  Agni Natchathiram has to be the best soundtrack from the Mani-IR combo. Unbelievably good songs. I would also place Mouna Raagam a close second. Thiruda Thiruda, a horrible movie, but is the best soundtrack that Mani and ARR has given. Roja and Bombay are also good.

  Best mani musical is Idhaya Kovil. But, Thiruda Thiruda by arr-mani is the most daring ever in TFM. Other than that IR-Mani almost all are equally exciting but really not daring as Thiruda Thriuda as one would have wished. even IRuvar was a great attempt by arr-mani. roja was a big change. overall arr was more daring than IR, but not consistent. IR-mani saw thrilling and consistent though predictable music.

  simply wondering like u, Nayakan has been missed (by mistake)....It was the BGM in the movie by the Maestro that binds the spectator too close to every scene.
  
  In my case, I was in tears when Kamal gets to see his dead son, his emotions (this os only one ex out of a cluster in that movie).... Kamal does his best to make the scene heavy with his expressions...but its only RAAJA undoubtedly, I claim to be responsible for tears in my eyes....

  ARR suck big time on "Kannathil Muthamittal", I couldn't tolerate someone say genius of illeterate. I request ARR to stop piracying from others first. and come up with something innovative(yes of his own).it is better to ask Sridhar(sound engineer) to rework the MSV, Ilaiyaraaja, K.V.Mahadevan songs with different lyrics--> bingo you have a ARR Song.

  Mani-IR's best work has to be in Agni Natchatiram. Wonderful, innovative songs.
  
  Best song in Agni N. - Vaa Vaa Anbe (Yesudas, Chitra)
  
  Mani-ARR's best work is Roja. Their first and their best.

  I think that maniratnam and Shankar movies have the best soundtracks. The best maniratnam soundtrack that i've listened to is either Kannathil Muthamittal or Uyire or Bombay. I like the songs "Kannathil Muthamittal", "Velai Pookal", "Sundari", and "Signore"from Kannathil Muthamittal.Uyire actually wasn't so great, but Bombay was also fascinating. Between A.R Rahman and Illairaja i would have to pick A.R rahman. But I don't understand why Kannathil Muthamittal was so cheap right when it came out? I only bought mine for $7.99 regular price

  Geetanjali (Telugu) is one of my all-time Mani-IR favorites following Agni Natchathiram and Idhaya Kovil. The songs were superb and the BGM was to kill for!
  It was dubbed in Tamil as Idhayathai Thirudaathe (where Mano tried in vain to match SPB's original versions).

  Q: Tell me, how do you get such good music out of A.R.Rahman?
  
  A: Rahman is every director’s dream. Before I start a film, as soon as the story is ready we discuss the situations where songs can be incorporated. If I am not happy with a tune, Rahman will dump it and create a new one. He has no ego problems and tries to come out with a new number with the same kind of passion with which he did the earlier one.
