Unfortunate death of "Velan" director Thirupathisami.

The director of the new movie starring Vijay and Priyanka Chopra with music by Yuvanshankar Raja passed away in a car accident last week.

  It's appropriate to feel sad about the death of a loved one. It's equally appropriate to console the bereaved. I join you in both.

  Very important people are dying in traffic accidents. Lot more common people die unnoticed. Doesn't it strike the minds of our administrators/bureaucrats that something needs to be done re: traffic control and management in India ?? No traffic sense at all. People are totally ignorant of the importance of formulating and observing traffic rules. If you guys know of any organisations working for safe roads in India. Please post here. I would really like to contribute my little mite to the cause. This is the only way we do justice to the death of these unfortunate people. May their soul rest in peace.

  Kiru for ur info, i remember reading long back an e-mail.... this was talking about how *bad* the driving is in INdia.... but u know what the conclusion part of that e-mail was - "having said that, the percent of accidents happening in India is much less than US"..... so we can't blame Indian traffic tottally..... .of course its bad, but its not as bad..... regarding this particular accident - it was not an accident in rush hours - it was at 2 AM in the morning, the driver just slept for a fraction of second, and that's it... poor guy Tirupathisamii..... my condolences to his family.....

  Kiru and Sabes,
  both are right, I think ultimately it is the health care available also matters a lot to the injured,lives of lot of people who die in India in MVA are because of lack of infrastructure in providing acute care immedately and effectively, the no. of accidents and even the severity of the accidents in US are definitely high, but still lot of them survive with some support because of the effectiveness of care.
  
  Just to add , Shankarnag ( a great admirer of IR) , one of the young , intelligent , talented directors from Kannada died also from a tragic accident at a young age, who incidentally directed the kannada movie "Accident" with great BGM (no songs) by IR and won the national award also.

  Driving in snow in USA IMHO, is very treacherous
  and cannot be compared to anything. Someone would argue that people should have ABS, traction control in their cars but it is well known that such cars are very expensive and is not affordable to everyone. I agree that the traffic rules are not followed well in India but that doesn't mean that driving in US is all fun.

  Prabhu Das..has a point. But I dont believe that the accident % is higher in the US. % to what # of cars or miles drive ? I think accident to miles driven is the right # to compare. BTW, I have not driven in India. But I have driven more than 120K miles in US and Canada (including snowy conditions). IMO, driving in this country is fun compared to India. Let us not defend anything about India. Traffic management surely needs attention in our country.

  I am not saying that traffic management is good in India but certainly driving in snow in US can be very treacherous as I have found out couple of times.

Kiru - i was not defending the Traffic in India..... just wanted to tell about the article i read long time back about the accident percentage..... and i will not accept the # of cars - in India, its cars plus bus plus lorry plus cycle plus 2 wheelers and plus the GREAT GREAT Nadai Rajakaal - all put together - will for sure be equal to the # of cars here in US :-)
  
  of course, its pity in India when it comes to the rescue effort after accidents..... i have heard of one death in Tiruchy-Tanjore road where a person coming in a TVS-50 was hit by some lorry and was lying in the road for nearly 4 hours, before he was taken the hospital where he breathed his last..... we need to *blame* ourself also for this..... *edhu eppadi ponnal enna* mentality - well, shame on us.....

  dear friends,
  Tirupathi sami is my aunt's very close friend. His accident was not due to traffic. The road was pretty empty, but the driver was damn sleepy and that is why he rammed the car against the post. Very aspiring man. I have met him and talked to him when he came home home a couple of times. Chithi used to say 'ivan periya aala varuvaan paaru'. God, may his soul rest in peace.
