Recently I heard a Tamil song from early 70s featuring the voice of a very little known singer, named, A L Raghavan. Anyone can give some details about him??
The voice had sonoriety as well as off-beat vivaciousness and sensitivity as of SP. By the early 70s SP had already become the supreme male voice of Telugu and Kannada, but in Tamil, he was still an aspirant. In such a case, the similarity between the singing mannerism of these two voices is surprising. What do you think?

It seems no one knows anything about ALR.
So it's curtains to this topic.

ALR was there at the FETNA 2003 show with Shankar Mahadevan and Canada's Agni music group at the New Jersey Patriotic Theatre in July 2003. He performed a great show.
ALR used to sing comedy songs for Nagesh etc when TMS was exclusively covering up all heros. Some of ALR comedy songs are:
Pakkathilae kanni pennirukku
Seettu Kattu rajah
Yenna vaegam nillu bama
Naan Yaar Theriyuma
Naadodi Oada vaendum Oadoadi (Anbe Vaa)
Anga muthu Thanga Muthu Thannikki Poanaalaam
Buthi sigamani Petra Pillai
There are many more....
In addition, he has done some great serious ones:
Some of them are:
Engirundhalum Vaazhga (Nenjil Oar Aalayam)
Andru Oomai Pennalloa
Kaadal Yaathiraikku Brindhavanamum
Maalaiyil Malar Soalaiyil
Inbamaana Iravidhuvae
Many more

Hi Interpreter and music.
Thank you for your observation. correction noted. Any how it is nice to note that this thread is getting revived again. ALR was one of the great singers of TFM. Unfortunately, his voice got identified with Nagesh and other comedians and he got branded under that group and missed out opportunities to play back then heros MGR or Sivaji. TM Soundrarjan completely stole the show with his unique voice. P B Srivinvas had a narrow escape by clinging on to Gemini Ganeshan. Both AL Raghavan and PB Srinivas have unforgettable voice and songs. We can never forget ALR's engirundhaalum vaazhga and undru oomai pennalloa. PBS's kaalangalil aval vasantham really made the TFM recognize Kavignar Kanndhasan. His Roja Malarae Rajakumari is a melody that never goes out of my mind.
I am sure that some readers are tempted to say that there were some more outstanding singers at that time too. Would some one be kind enough to mention them for everyone's pleasure.

Recently, A.L.Raghavan and his actress wife M.N.Rajam came to Singapore as chief guests of a local show honouring veterans. It was amazing that Raghavan's voice was still in top form and he sang many of his old numbers. What a treat!
