Good news. I think we can expect some variety in the form of Parthiban's creativity.
Its unfortunate that Parthiban is still known for Ulle Veliye...oru paanai chorrukku oru soru patham - seriyana example!
If I'm not mistaken, Parthiban has worked only with 3 composers...Chandrabose (puthiya paathai?), Deva and Ilayaraja.
The vikatan write-up was kind of funny. Before going on a huge pugazhanjali of Rahman, he has added a customary 3 liner on IR in a bid not to antagonise IR and his fans! Parthibanukku ithu thevaya?
But it shows how important IR is in the industry inspite of all the skeptical comments floating around!

jaalraa Osai maNdaiyai piLakkirathu. And his 'customary 3 liner' can be viewed as 'vanjap pugazhchi' and may backfire. If Parthi prefer's Coke over grape juice, let him go ahead and drink. Who asked for justifications?

ada jaalra osai mandayai pilakirathu endral kaadhai pothikollam oi!
look at it this way doubter! if he had written the article without that 'customary' mention of IR, we'd have been discussing it in an entirely different way....that Parthiban has forgotten the doyen of Indian (Tamil?) music!
Was Ullay Veliye and Houseful the only 2 movies of Parthiban (directed!) which had IR's music? Of course there were a few other movies with Parthiban in it and was directed by others like the one with Kushboo and Rupini (forgot its name), which had one superb song...
Even Ullay Veliye had the excellent Charukesi number 'chakkara katti' which was not shot the way it was supposed to be and was 'konnufied'! But going by the mood of the movie it was more than apt!

I think he had done a couple more movies with IR:
1. There's a song `ArArO pAttuppAda nAnum thAi illai' (is it poNdAtti thEvai?)
2. kAkkai chiRaginilE

e,
1. It is 'poNdaatti Thevai' - Parthiban's second movie, by IR,
2. Kaakkai chiRaginile is not directed by Parthiban, P.Vasu was the director.
Karthik,
I think you are talking about 'Parthiban, Rupini' starred 'Thalaattup Padava',
Which had JUST one superb song ? What yaar, I atleast remember three wonderful songs from that movie (All by Arunmizhi :-)
1. Varaathu Vantha Nayakan
2. Neethaana Neethaana Nenje Neethaana
3. VeNNilavukku Vaanaththaip Pidikkalaiyaa

Yes Naga! It was the song 'vennilavukku vaanatha...'. Incredible composition. Trademark IR orchestration. Lovely number. The movie was directed by R Sundarrajan isnt it?
Parthiban has really not exhibited any creativity in selecting his tunes so far, so I hope he does some with ARR in Yelaylo. He does exhibit a lot of creativity in screenplay and in arranging functions for his book release and pada poojai vizhas!
BTW, whats the instrument which ARR is holding in the snap in Vikatan? Any guesses? It looks beautiful, but never seen anything like it before!

Karthik,
Have you listened to 'Metti Metti VeLLi Metti' (Movie : puLLa Kuttik Kaaran) Sung by S. Janaki, ArunMozhi tuned by Deva ? A very good song, When somebody played the song, I was never ready to believe it is composed by Deva ;-)
Probably the best song in Parthiban (Directed) Movies ?

NagaS:
Yes, the songs that you mentioned are really good. I like that varadu vantha naayagan. But, songs of UV is real crap. A bad show by IR. I have seen that movie twice fully and in bits and pieces in TV several time. I like that movie for some other reason.
Karthik_s:
What is that Charukesi number 'chakkara katti' ? I don't remember it.

Are you talking aboutthe picture in the front page of the article?
Omygosh! I thought that Partheepan in his intense love for creativity had given ARR a pot to hold:-)). Never considered it to be an instrument.

Both ARR and Parthiban are guys with a difference!
Yelelo is sure to be a superduper hit.
Chandrabose, IR, and Deva have composed in Parthibans films and it is ARRs turn now. Good Luck! The beginig is good. Hope as in Ananda vikatan interview, he uses tamil voices like sangeetha jaathi mullai Sudha Raghunathan in the film. Tamil films need a variety of tamil voices to listen to tamil as tamil in tamil songs.

It could as well be a big flop also
When you start a project, you want it to be a superduper hit. No one will say, "this project can be a mega hit or a big flop". Even if you are in no way going to benefit from a film's success, you definitely don't want it to be a big flop (you may not want it to be a big success either). I really don't understand the reason for the above statement. Does Mr.Fliflo want the film to be a big flop?

Wishing is one aspect..what really happens in another. If this is a wish(es) forum then, I have no hesitation in joining all you guys and giving "all the best". In reality, what might really happen nobody knows. If there are few thoughts expecting this combination to be a "big success", few others run in predicting this to be a "big failure". The above statement(s) was just to convey that both the possibilities have equal chances..

Consider these possibilities...
The film could be a moderate hit also...
The film could be a moderate flop also...
The film would be critically acclaimed whereas commercially it would bomb...
etc etc etc
So suggesting these possibilities makes me super intelligent...

Common Friend:
'chakkara katti' I think comes up when Parthiban ties himself to the railway track and calls up Aishwarya saying he's gonna commit suicide. She finds out that its actually a railway strike that day and no trains are plying (Parthiban touch - very similar to Bhagyaraj touch!)...I'm digressing...
This is where the song appears, its based on Charukesi raagam and is an incredible number by IR. Song picturisation was in keeping with the rest of the tone/spirit of the movie...Parthiban ventured into the grey areas of movie dynamics and introduced triple and multiple entendres!
