what does it take for IR to try and stun the western pop music world? what would it take to enthuse IR make an attempt into that style of popular music. Is it because he cannot find a good singer? Is it because he cannot have a producer to pay someone like Bono (U2) or Britney Spears to sing a number? or is it too much of a stretch of imagination? It is just one hit number thatcna make a difference. i am saying that IR can easily do it. lately his unbelievable creations in desiya geetham, manam virumbuthey unnai, more recently aandan adimai, then his earlier disco numbers so many of them tells me that IR can manage the dynamics of the situation. If IR can do symphony in a month's time, a number like "Take on Me (a-ha)', One Night in Bangkok (Chess) or Tarzan Boy (Baltimora) or Orinoco Flow (Enya) or Fly Away or something oR dANCING queen (ABBA) will be cake walk?
What do you guys think? This is the ultimate challenge for IR and may be wishful thinking for his fans.

All these fall into ARR's category and style of compositions...

Manam Virumbuthey Unnai is a movie with music by IR (*ing Prabhu & Meena). The song with the same start is Deva's in Nerukku Ner.
I hope Raja fan's proposals are worth His consideration.

I dont know why we are so obsessed with Western music genres. Is it some sort of inferiority complex that we want to identify with the West always ? ('see we also do music like the way you guys do ') Sorry..I am just a little frustrated here.
A genre is exemplified by the instruments (arrangement) and singing. For eg. rock is identified by drums and electric guitar. If we go by western genres what will happen to our instruments and style of singing ? So we need to define genres from our (Indian/Tamil) point of view. Genres are a starting point/guide to composing a song. It does not mean a artiste has to stick to it. Actually, a good artiste should evolve/develop any genre. This is what IR has done. He has taken Indian instruments, Western harmony and other WCM based techniques to compose songs with rhythm for the general population. He is a POP composer but influenced by ICM and WCM heavily. Many of IRs songs have standard arrangments and so these can be classified into a particular genre. Since he has used drums and guitar and follows western principles of harmony they can even be classified under one of those western genres ( if that will make 'rAjA fan' happy :))

indian film songs are like ramayana and mahabharatha - on a musical scale, they are comparabale to symphonies in structure. long winded and excessive. i am saying western pop is more challenging and widely appreciated by all kinds of listeners. arr' music is hardly music and he is hardly able to capture the form of western pop. IR can do it, i don't know if it is easy. But, I am saying it is very very challenging to do something more limited and more palatable. arr songs are just freaky, no strucuture no form and no substance.
Pls don't dismiss western pop as frivolously
