Daud is blast. Each song is original and has no connection. Nothing sounds like his older songs. Asha Bhosle is getting younger by the day. Rahman shows he can handle bhangra like tappankuthu.
Recording is patchy. I think arr represents all india and not just south.

Probably you can start discussing about 'Ottam', the dubbed Tamil version of 'Daud'!!!! It will fit into TFM - irrespective of whether the songs fit into TFM or not.

When I was switching channels, I saw Daud ad
and the song I heard - couple of minutes - was
different - my fingers stopped moving to the next
channel. Since I don't pay any attention to Hindi
movies - I didn't care for that.
I didn't know that MD is ARR.
I guess, I need to buy that cassatte pretty soon
and start enjoying the songs. I am sure ARR
would have done something different. I agree that
ARR represents ALL india not just Tamil cinema.
With VandE mAtram he has taken the next step also.
Thanks Srini, for letting me know that ARR is the MD.

The song "O Bhawren" is not much different from the old Hindi number"o saathi re" and "O sai yaiyen" resembles a song in Bobby or is it Saagar.
Sorry folks for the hindi references but I just could'nt resist...

I heard the song Shabba Shabba from Ottam.
Could not appreciate the song.

Hi Folks,
Last week I got the tape of VIP and OOTAM.
Actually after hearing OOTAM or OTTAM I thought of taking OOTAM.
Lousy Music, awful Lyrics except for one song (O Bhawren.
That too it good to hear in Hindi only.
I am getting irritated hearing OTTAM songs.
VIP is only consolation for my money.
Cheers swamy

Hi folks,
Last week I got the tape of VIP+ootam.
The songs of OOtam are lousy and the Lyrics are awful except for one song sung by Yesudas.
M only consolation was VIP songs.
I will rate OOTAM *1/2 out of *****
Cheers swamy

Are you referring (O saathe re) to mukqadar ka sikandar - an Amitab starrer?

Sorry Ravi, but I don't know if the movie is Kabhie Kabhie or Muq ka Sikander. But I think its the former...

It is always true that one cannot appreciate
the songs that are dubbed from other languages
that is the reason why the songs in Ottam are
lousy. But the Original Hindi Songs are real Good.

thank you folks for the response. the song bhawre may closely resemble oh sathi re(Muq Ka Sik)
in the start but definitely takes another turn. It was refreshing to hear Yesudas. ARR is very creative with percussion instruments.

I know the platform is for TFM only but IRs symphony is no TFM either. ( I am a IR admirer as well). I guess ARRs moves are a matter of interest because he is a product of TFM even though he scores music in any language.

I think you got me wrong. I justified your inclusion of DAUD into this forum. I just said that if somebody doesn't want to discuss about the Hindi version, talk about the Tamil one.
When we are talking about vandE maatharam, why can't we talk about Daud?
Swamy
Did I hear you right? VIP is better than Ottam? Yes! Yes! I remember now. There are numbers lesser than zero.

Srini,
You are right. All the songs in daud ( ottam) are
different from his previous songs, surprisingly. I loved this song shai hai ( spb and asha). Did any one know who replaced asha in tamil? I feel
swarnalatha or asha itself is the best choice. This is a lovely and very very different song.

This is what SCREEN says about Daud's Music.
"As for the other strong points of Daud, dare one say that Rahman sounds repetitive? It is easy enough on the ear and yet the unmistakable echoes from his own earlier films sound too familiar for unalloyed enjoyment."

The computer crashed 26 times I believe
before the Shai Yai song was recorded.
That shows the immense overloading of
orchestration and music in that song.

Never compare any musicians with The Altimate Music Director A.R.Rahman and stop critizing Rahman badly.
