We are now living in an age of inspirations. :-))Probably original tunes are no longer discoverable. Okay, we'll leave that aside. :-))
The purpose of this thread is to identify which tune/song has been the source of inspiration for the greatest number of songs.
The original need not be TFM, but the latter must be.

I stuck on this topic while unconsciously humming Agosh's Thaam thadigida thaam from Kodeeswaran. The beginning is clearly inspired from Venketeswara Suprapaatham.
Another recent song which has the same inspiration is Deva's Garuda garuda.
There are a few other songs which have been ispired from this Suprapaatham. I can't immediately recollect.
Over to you guys.

TFM has been a source of inspirations to other music too. One such latest inspied song is a song from the hindi movie mann which is scheduled for release next week. Our "edho oru paatu en kadhil ketkum" has been suttufied there!

I was just listening to this song "Manasey" from the movie 'Nenjinile' on the tamilworld web site.
This song is very obviously 'inspired' by ARR's 'Tu Hi Tu Nigahon Me' song from 'Kabhi Na Kabhi'
Who is the MD for 'Nenjinile', BTW ?

RR - Which other songs of Didi? YVS has given one.
bb - Can you name the songs inspired by GBU?
Chandy - interesting. :-))
Sriram Lakshman & Dev Mannemela- I think that we need more than one song to qualify here.
Maybe I didn’t make myself clear. I want to know which source has been the most copied tune in TFM.
Okay what do we have now?
Source : Venketesa Suprapaatham
1. Thaam thadigida thaam - Kodeeswaran (Agosh)
2. Garuda Garuda - Natpukkaaga (Deva)
3. mArgazhippoovE -may mAdham (ARR)
Any other song can beat the Suprapaatham? :-))

'varaaga nadhi karai oram' from Sangamam sounds very similar to Roonaa Leila's 'dhamaadham mast kalandhar' (not Fateh Ali Khan's 'thoo cheez badi hai', but it is a different one). Has anybody else heard that song ?

Venky, its a very standard qawali kinda tune. one tamil song thats close to that is "dheena karunakarane nataraja neelakandane" from nandanaar

Hi Venky
I have heard Runa Laila's 'Dhamadham mast qalandar' & I do agree about the similarity--particularly the opening of the charanam in Dhamadham, ie--'char charagu tere' is very close to 'KaNNil varum katchiyelam'
In other areas it resembles one other NFAK's song, I mention in my review (see earlier posting)
It still has some original ideas however.

NFAK has a 'Mastu Kalandharu Mastu Mastu' in the Mustt, Mustt album. 'cheez badi he mastu mastu'is an exact replica of this including orchestration.

NOV: Didi, I think, will easily outscore suprabatham :-)
1. yeh shabba
2. azhagiya laila
3. alli alli anarkali
4. kaathalin desam kathavugal thirakkum
and many more..
BTW the 'dhidhi tera devar' mentioned by YVS is not the Khaled song :))

Isn't Mukkala Mukkabala the most copied number in the history of music itself ? :-) At last count, I believe there were atleast 6 versions running *simultaneously*, soon after Kaathalan was released :-)

Swami,
"nee koduthata thiruppi koduppen" from Maaveeran, was released in the early eighties. So, it couldn't possibly have been inspired from "didi Tera devar".

Guys,
I watched a Malaysian Channel while in Singapore and there were quite a few numbers by the Malaysian Pop artists which were straight-lifts from Tamil&Hindi numbers.
One such number was IR's 'En Iniya Pon Nilave'
Idu Eppadi Irukku?
