Let me try "mudhalvan": (all IMO)
(1) Shakalaka Baby:
An atrocious song with pristine ingredients of cacophony neatly blended to
produce a despicable output. The song has been formulated to attract the attention of the spuriously westernized young generation. The choral humming that comes in between the song reminds us of the mooing of the buffaloes in the pastoral lands, thus taking all the US based Indians to the rustic ambience of Desh, transcending physical barriers (pakkathila oru erumai koottam mEyura saththam, superb feeling !!!). To my knowledge, IR became a veteran (in music) but ARR is becoming a vet.
Now that much malice has been thrown, let me get to the details. VM's lyrics are "apt" for the tune..eg.." puh puh puh puh puh puh puh puh time enna..thu thu thu thu thu thu thu thu thalaiyanai..shaiyO shaiyO.."(ayyO !!!). The entire song has been sung in false voice which is in "tune" with he Americanized(?!) tamil accent of the singer. I am sure this is one of those junk songs for which ARR takes a "lot of time" to compose.
The entire song is generously filled with arbitrarty sounds which could be appealing to aliens and exobiologists. It comes close to " Monisha" and " Hello Doctor" in comparison, though ( the good news is that it) does not supersede either. Have the volume low else you cound land in ear - disorders.
(2) kurukku chiriththavaLe:
It is melodious. I like this. I like this because I like " Pardesi Pardesi jaanaa nahin" from Pardes. I like to have its tamil version with some compromise on the original tune. So I like this song. Similar structure.Same raga. Similar beat. Same tune when you compare "Pardesi mere yaaran" and "Oru kaNNil neer kasiya".
The song seemingly set in "Mishra shivaranjani" ( not sure - IMO) has been wonderfully rendered by Sadhana sargam and HH.
coming to lyrics: As somebody observed priorly, VM has voiced his request through the hero to be smeared as turmeric over heroine's body. Same stuff. Same repeated stuff. But not vulgar - so, great !!!!
This song IMO is a good one to go into our racks. It also has a twin - "Ulundhu vidhaikkayile" by Swarnalatha. Same comments.
(3) uppu karuvaadu:
A dappaanguthu which is really catchy if not for Shankar Mahadevan's voice ! but..wait..I hear some other song..yes..I got it !! " siragai neenginaal paravai yillai, thriyai neenginaal dheepam illai, unnai neenginaal naanum illai, unakku athu puriya villai.." - the humming of this inserted as a choral portion " gola..gola.golagalla..". So another old song ? Not really..I am sure fans of ARR's beatsy numbers will find this appealing. Lyrics once gain take a dive. No life!!!
(4) MudhalvanE:
ment..ment..comment..vanE..vanE..mudhalvanE..dungadunga..aaLAi vidunga !! :-)
(5) Alagaana raatchasiyE:
A beautiful number from ARR. Set in Reethi Gowla ragaa ( donot know if it is pure), it adds to the small number of filmsongs that are set in the same ragam. SPB is amazingly young and Harini's portion is very uncomplicated. The tune imparts into me the faith that ARR is still a good interpreter of Classical music. The lyrical blunders are revolting. VM has penned down all his sadistic manifestations into a lovesong ("adi nenjai aruvaa manNayil arukkiriyE" - I think he will use hacksaw next when it comes to introducing english words). But the song is really appealing. It is worth becoming a personal favorite. There is a constant "tick -tick" sound similar to the prelude of " avaL varuvaLA" of Deva. The note of this instrument is "sa" all through the song. I wonder if the appropriate notes for orchestration could not be played in the same. It is really sickening. Else the song is great.
summary:
The album has four good songs of which two are twins. To buy it or not is left ot the personal discretion, no suggestions offered !!
You can listen to the songs at:
http://www.ayngaran.com
(Please use the "page down" key to bypass the ayngaran's advt)
I reiterate - all IMO.

Hi,
Mudhalvan :
After MS , I have also decided to take the plunge into reviewing Mudhalvan !
1.Kurukku Chiruththavale : IMO it is one of the songs which makes you feel , you have heard it somewhere , but are unable to place it exactly . Hariharan and Mahalakshmi of Velli Malare from Jodi fame do a pretty good job of singing . Side B has a version sung by Shreenivas and Swarnalatha which also has the stanzas sung by HH and Mahalakshmi .
2.Mudhalvane : A strange sounding "Mudhalvane " by Shankar Mahadevan startled me at the beginning of the song . I feel this should have been given to Sujatha or someone younger . Dina Thanthi reports that while this song was being picturised at Rajpath , New Delhi , The Indian President K.R.Narayanan , who passed by , stopped his motorcade and saw the shooting for some time , had a chat with Manisha . He it seems also appreciated the music . I hear that the picturisation is something to watch out for .
3.Uppu Karuvaadu : The catchiest song of the album IMO which really catches on to you . The initial parts seem to have a hangover of Varaaga Nadhikkarai Oram especially the high pitched sangathis . It also resembles Muththae Muthamma from Ullasam slightly . Shankar Mahadevan does well , but Kavitha Krishnamurthy seems to puff and pant a bit in the high pitched parts.
4.Azhagana Raatchasiye : Easily the bset song in the album by SPB and Harini who do a tremendous job in the song . I agree that it is set in Reethi Gowlai . Rahman's nephew Prakash also sings a line in the song.
5. Shakalaka Baby : The worst song in the album which does not IMO have a sense of melody . ARR introduces Vasundra and Pravin Mani who has also taken the credit for programming for one of the songs
I do not regret having purchased the album :-)

Can any one tell me which one is the ORIGINAL TajMahal CD? - in other words which company bought the audio rights for TajMahal international distribution?
There are many pirate CDs in the stores. Please do not buy them! Support the artists by buying the oiriginal CDs.
I bought some CDs from Jeya and Brothers in Toronto some time ago, they are pirate CDs, and now I heard that they are selling TajMahal CDs for CDN$ 3.50. Those are pirate CDs, PLEASE BE AWARE!
thanks,

To Everybody,
In the song, " Azhagana Ratchasiye " ARR has used the raga Reethigowla. But I don't think thats the best disposition of that raga. That song is very normal song, when the implementation of that raga is concerned. If you really want t0 see good Reethigowla, then Listen to the song,
" Meethadha Veenai ", from poonthottam, " Naadam piradhadi " of Gopura Vaasalile, This song is not the best as it is stated

What do u guys mean muthalvan is not good..Though it is not good as Jeans...it is alot better than what any other MDS can do..Muthalvane has ONE of the best music i have heard. Please don't say Rahman's music is like Deva's or anyother md's. B/c it is not..it is in a class of it's own..no one catch up to Rahmans status...For those who said it is not good..give it another listen.
u may change your mind.
