I have been visiting this page quite often, but more often than not I've been a mute spectator, choosing to enjoy what you guys write. Anyway, I am an ardent Illayaraja fan, and have always wanted to create a nice Illayaraja homepage, with a lot of his songs, nice write ups and links. I was just wondering if I could use some of the stuff that you guys wrote on these pages for the write ups.
Thanks

Hello
Why not also have some very good songs of
IR in realaudio format in such pages. Or if possible what about the idea of making realaudio
file and distributing them on different web pages
and putting them all together as links. I can provide space for 10 songs in my home page.
Let me know your opinion.

About Semmangudi's comments about IR :
In IR's carnatic compositions (played on Mandolin by U Srinivas - AVM Audio), at the end of the cassette, Semmangudi talks about IR and his compositions. This is available only on the cassette not on the CD.

I really do not know the kind of relationship between Mots and Semmangudi. But either of the two fall over the other like magnets!!!
I was there watching a carnatic perf. by IR on 31Dec94 at Kamaraj Arangam, and Semmangudi was there from begin to end. When he spoke about IR, he was ecstatic yet, sincere in his comments. When he ended his speech, Semms said " ShandhegammE illai, Isaigyani Isaigyani dhaan". The audience was on its feet and was in raptures for five full minutes. The Isaigyani, clad in his usual white and white (with white shoes) was all humble with a little bit of smile here and there!! (He looked like a manappen in the manamEdai!!).
As soon as Semms. closed his speech, IR just made a signal to his sons who were in the first row. The twosome walked up quickly to the stage and fell at the feet of Semms. Surprisingly, while returning to their seats, (as in tamil movies!!!)most unexpectedly, they dhadalufied at their Dad's feet!! Oh, Raaja was negilndhufied, I presume!! That was a real "bond" show!! Needless to say, the audience went bonkers, again!!!(INR 100 roovai ticket!!!)

Hi Karthik,
It is better if I can get it from URL. As it invokes ftping automatically in binary mode, it would be easier for me to handle.
So, to start with I will put them in a page with the title Ilayaraja-vin Innisai Thulighal(as it will be containing the songs only), for the time being. There can be other pages containing articles on ilayaraja which can link to this page. Or, if you guys have articles I can put them and make this as a part of Maestro Ilayaraja. Let me know your opinion on this.

Guys,
I am a newbie on Internet programming but I can offer my help in creating this homepage.
My choice for the name of the homepage :
Maestro Ilaiyaraja Homepage
Reason : Indexing on Maestro is better than IsaiGnani. Also I think it should be in English rather (with Tamil font versions). Reason : People outside TN should be able to appreciate the genius of IR.
Other material which I think should be part of IRHP :
The complete Classical Ilaiyaraja series (maybe with some editing - with permission from the author - LSRamakrishnan). (We could also get his inputs for the homepage).
Complete list of IR's films (with details of Director/Lyricists + songs + year of release with ratings for songs).
Details of Interviews with IR : Frontline, Hindu, translations of various interviews in Tamil magazines.
Articles on IR.
Plus a major section on IR's non-filmy compositions.
I have a list of IR's filmography with me. (Which I got off the net. I think it was originally posted by Dev Mannemala - who had posted a query here sometime back). His input would be useful in collecting IR's filmography. I can post IR's filmography here and we can modify the list).
- From: Aravind (@ 202.42.152.9)

I agree that the matter should be in English. If time and other resources permit, we can think of creating a Tamil version also. This will help in a wider browsership. (What a word!!)
But the name should be in Tamil. We can have a translation in English. When we load the page, one should see Tamil characters first. The translation and text will appear later.
Something like
isaignaanikku iNaiyaththil isaichchamarppaNam.
iNaiyam - The accepted Tamil word for Internet. Atleast here in Singapore.

P. Raja. As cp said the page looks o.k. for starts. But if you are really serious about adding a lot of IR songs then you should think of some way of organizing them.. say alphabetically like the lyrics page on TFM. Geocities gives you very limited space for a full fledged song archive though. :(.

Interview with P.VAsu from today's SCreen
"
Has the emergence of new directors, fresh techniques,
different music and snappy dialogue affected you in any way?
There was never any dearth for new talent among directors. We’ve always had talented men like Bhartiraja and Vikraman taking their bows. But that does not mean that the older ones are forgotten. But the latest techniques have definitely affected me. The styles of cinematography for instance, have changed appreciably over the years. Look at Ashok Kumar’s cinematography in my film Mannan and Jayanan Vincent’s in another, and you’ll know what I’m talking about. The cameraman’s contribution to filmmaking is a great advantage for today’s directors. People like Mani Ratnam and I can suggest close-ups, but we’d be at our wits’ end when it comes to deciding on the lighting.
On the music front, I’m missing Illayaraja very badly, because his tunes always brought the song sequences alive. Other directors too, like Bhartiraja must be missing him, I’m sure. "

Well guys 'n' gals,
This discussion is a dream come true for me (a newcomer ), since i am new to internet. The first thing i did when i got connected in I'net was to search for great,dear,soft,.... ilayaraaja and luckilly got here. Introducing myself i am a devotee of ilayaraaja and got buggged the first time i saw the movie annakili as a kid. I have a lot to say about raaja's background score in all his movies (the songs are obviously great). What astonishes me is his score in movies shot in foreign backdrops like priya, ullaasa paravaigal, jappanil kalyanaraman etc. You can feel the scent of that couintry hearing those songs. Well how was all these possible for a man who was from a remote village with no formal education and knowledge about other places. ( Please do not argue that all those are bits and pieces of western classical ). Well i am so excited (being in company of IR fans) that i dont know how to continue further. Anyhow well anyone give some details of raaja's visit to the CASIO COMPUTER in japan where he is supposed to have suggested a demo song in one of the new models of the CASIO keyboard the company was introducing ???.

Happy Deepavali to all of you !!!!! Iam feeling nostalgic about the many Deepavalis in 80s & 90s when 10-12 IR movies used to come and all of them will have equally exhilirating music.
1996 Deepavali was very dull for me personally as not a single movie with his music came.
I sincerely pray to God that some such deepavalis like in 80s and 90s should recur again in the future especially looking at the fact that he is accepting some new movies now.

Name Raja's site as Isaignani, Maestro, Ragadevan, Innisai Illavarasar Maestro Illaiyaraja. So all these titles are indexed.
First, it is important to categorise his songs into periods of five years as he evolved different forms over time.
