Thengai Srinivasan

Hello guys & gals,

Thengai is one of the original comedians of Tamil Film. Have been wondering why he got the title "Thengai". Anyone to comment ?

  I think it was VK Ramaswamy who gave him the title.. I vaguely remember thengai srivasan mentioned this in a TV interview many years ago.
  
  I am a big fan of Thengai. He is a natural. He does overact but that's his style. I just loved his comedy in kasethan kadavulada and thendarale ennai thodu and a lot of old movies. Thengai, Cho and Nagesh were my favourite comedians.

  If I remember right, he got the title after acting as a coconut vendor in some movie. I think he passed away in Feb 1988. His acting in Thillu Mullu is unforgettable.

  hi!guyz i am an ardent fan of mr. thengai srinivasan. he got that name from mr. thangavelu. mr. thengai was a very close associate of m.g.r. he is a favorite for both rajini and kamal hassan.he is one of my fav. actors, he has done over 950 films.played various chracters -hero, villian,comedian,character roles etc.,. thengai rocks

  The few movies i saw him in he always come with Sunkan in his mouth and wearing thick glass and starts dialogue usually with 'Dear friends...'

  nobody mentions the great M.R.Radha or N.S.Krishnan in this thread. Radha ( in later years, Asokan too), flourished both as a villain and a comedian. In fact, the villain-comedian dual face was a unique phenomenon in Tamil films, I think, any thoughts otherwise ?
