an attempt to dig out some golden oldies with the help of the many seasoned campaigners in TFM.Iam interested in doing a collection of songs that are strictly confined to this period which I consider as the renaissanceage of music

  25. Is Poo amalaiye thol serva from pagal nilavu? can someone verify? I remember murli and revathi featuring in this song. Its an awesome number.

  I dont think 'Poomedayoo ponveenaiyo' is from Kunguma Chimizh. Nor this song was composed by IR. From what I vaguely remember, this was from a Kovaithambi movie, starring Mike (mohan!), probably the first Kovaithambi made without IR.

  Hi this is Vasudevan. I have been looking at tfmpage for the past 1 month. I thank all the people who have put their immense effort in bringing out such a collection. Particularly that of Ilaiyaraja and SPB. I was looking for the song "Vaa Ponmaiyela Nenjam Ekkathil thavikkudhu". I finally got it here in one of the links which leads to members.tripod.com/ilaiyaraaja.
  
  I'm looking for a song from Kavikuyil, sung by Dr.BalaMurali Krishna "Chinna Kannan Azhaikiraan... Radhayai Poongothayai Aval manam konda ragasiya raagathai paadi...". If anyone has the lyrics, please let me know.

  recorded 2 tapes of raaja's olden goldies. had not heard many of the songs and was quite surprised at the un-Ilayarajaesque nature of those songs, not that they are any less beautiful. must have been during his earliestststst days. guys, have any of u heard any/all of these songs?

  All of those used to be my favourites long back!
  
  Just another proof of the great variety that Raja has gifted us with!
  
  BTW, all are not `that earliest' ones (I mean the late 70's); for e.g.the song `neengatha ennam ondru' is from a Bhagyaraj movie `Vidium varai kathiru', which is an early 80's film. Pani vizhum poo nilavil is also from the same period (this song has to be a post-Nizhalkal song since it features Deepan Chakrabarthy).
  
  There are two songs `Sevvaname' & `Sindhu nadhikkarai' in your list both of which are from a Sivaji film`Nallathoru Kudumbam', which must be a 70's stuff. Likewise the song from `Nadiyai thedi vantha kadal'- `Thavikkuthu' must be a 70'stuff which has featured JJ in the film I think.
  
  If you closely look at the way IR evolved as a musician from Annakkili days, it's just unbelievable!!! I doubt any other musician in the world possessing such a vast variety of (original)compositions!!! Added to these are his non-filmy scores and bgms. Just mind boggling!!

  they are my current favourites coz i have been on an overdose of raja's complex numbers for the past one year. badly needed his simple tunes, because i listen to only RAJA, the KING!!!!!

  cram you are touching only the tip of the icebergy. btw panivizhum poo nilavil is by MV and SPS in the film Thhai ppongal. There is a similar duet with a fantastic prelude in the film Illaamil Kolam - Nee Illadha Podhu Yengum Yennam.

  I was listening to one of my old tapes yesterday and was just overwhelmed by the sheer variety of IR's compositions. Every number in this tape is so unique. No run-of-the-mill stuff here... Just sample these numbers:

  Neels, I agree with you. What everybody should know is when they go to record any old IR film, they should ask for all the songs. You will be surprised at the sheer variety and personality in each song in an old movie of IR. That is what I did and today I am continuing to discovoer more old songs that I used to ignore totally. Examples are: Pani Kaattril Kkulumai and Kalai Veyil Paadum Sindhu Sindhu both i think in Panchami, Boo Baa Boo Baa Baaby in Moodupani, the list is endless. In your above list Eennullil Yengo Yengum ... etc.. is a long forgotten classic melody. I feel sad that Vani Jayaram removed hereself from IR's baton

  No body here mentioned about the song "Naana paduvathu Naana.." from the movie Noolveli. It
  has one more good song by Balamuralikrishna.Now
  I have a doubt whether this movie is by Ilayaraja or not. Somebody can confirm this here..

  Try, Hits of IR released by Inreco.
  It has, aanatha Raagam, Thagam Edukira Neram, etc. it has good collection.
  Another one would be:
  Kaatriiniley varum geetham/Muthal Iravu/Uravaadum Nenjam/Manipoor Maamiyaar
  Chitu Kuruvi/Gaayathiri/Badra Gaali/Anpey Sangeetha
  These two albums are released by Laxsmi audio, but not a high quality CD. But great collections.
  16 vayathiniley/Niram Maaratha Pookal/Kizhakey Pogum Rayil/Agal vilaku/Vidukathai Oru Thodarkathai released by Ramiy. Again not a high quality CD, but great collections.
