Hi all.
I am a total illiterate when it comes to music. All I know is: if it sounds goods, it's good.
I had read quite a number of the messages about some of the past and present and the great and not-so-great singers in the "SPB the greatest singer that India had ever produced" topic.
I was just wondering if anyone would be willing to do an analysis on Unni Menon.
I just love his voice. It is soooooooooooooo soothing, regardless of whether it is "manly" or not. But then again, what do I know about music?
I look forward to reading any decent comments.
Thanking people (who take time to reply) in advance.

everyone knows music in a way. of course there are many technical knowledges to be garnered. but for all it's technical aspects, music invokes our senses, fundamentally, and with that conveys feelings and the very thought of that is beautiful . i know nothing (well maybe a little) about music. but being very emotive of a person, music is my life and without Rahman, I'll be lesser of a person. however, there's no denying the technical part of music but as Rahman has said, being a human and philosophical has been his driving force.
back u menon , i think he's simply fantastic. he renders haunting tunes well (pudhu velai mazhai and poogaatrile) and soothing tunes too (kannukku mai azhagu). he has got many numbers of course .

There is no question about it, he is THE best of the current male singers. Unnikrishnan is sometimes too nasal, Hariharan should be incarcerated for his Tamil assasination, Srinivas lacks depth, Shankar's voice does not suit all songs...

unni menon has no life in voice;nor any originality.
he does not modulate his voice any bit. he is another Jolly Abraham.
He lacks the bass of KJY and lilting melody of V jeyachandran.
I am unable to understand the chances that he is getting : infact Madhu Balakrishnan has a better material than Unni Menon.

Unni Menon's muthalan kattai and ettan kattai sound nasal and feminine. SPB is the only singer in the world who has deep bass in muthalan kattai and ettan kattai.

last week i happened to listen to him on vijay tv's aboorva raagangal. he is only imitating a lot of keralite voices. nothing unique about him. ofcourse, he sang very well in the prog.
