The other day, lyricist, N Muthukumar in a private television channel told that he is working with ace director, Mani Ratnam's film. It has A R Rahman's music. The film is a Hindi and Tamil bi-lingual. It may be noted that Muthukumar has written lyrics for ARR in Balachander's PARTHALE PARAVASAM (1 song). Even Kapilan has written songs for Shankar's BOYS. So, has the A R Rahman and Vairamuthu come to an END??? The last they worked together was Mani Ratnam's KANNATHIL MUTHAMITTAL. It seems Vairamuthu demands huge salary and also says that he will write all the songs or none. This has given rise to many other talented young lyricists. Vauiramuthu has written the songs for Jeevas PEPSI, music by Harris Jayaraj.
CINE SOUTH:
"There are two things about him that others don't like - his huge salary and his insistence that he should write all the songs. Vairamuthu's songs do make the film successful, but there are lyricists who write for half the salary that he demands and their songs are becoming big hits too. So, they are getting more offers. And, he wants to write al the songs. If the filmmakers want to give one song to someone else, he angrily refuses the offer. That's why the whole industry is functioning without him nowadays."
"Yes, Madan. Its shocking that even Shankar has used new lyricists for his 'Boys'."
"But, Vairamuthu hasn't given up hope yet. "The toughest period was when I separated from Ilayaraaja. Now, my contribution will be more than before", he says to his friends. "
Will Vairamuthu and A R Rahman work again. Discuss.

No fanfare as usual
Great news for Mani Ratnam fans! The director's new film has been launched, as usual without any fanfare and shrouded in secrecy. This time it is a Hindi-Tamil bi-lingual, the Hindi version already being shot, the Tamil one to commence in September or so. The star cast in Hindi includes Ajay Devgan, Abhishek Bachchan, Vivek Oberoi, Rani Mukherjee, Kareena Kapoor and Simran. The Tamil version, after some shuffling around, has Madhavan, Surya, Shaam, Meera Jasmin and of course, Simran again. Incidentally, Simran was to have acted in the director's first Hindi venture 'Dil Se', but had to back out due to date problems. 'Dil Se' was a cropper at the box office. Hopefully, Mani Ratnam's second attempt to woo the Hindi film audiences should work this time round!

This shows the fear and loss of confidence in Vairamuthu. If he shares the songs along with the new lyricsts and if the other lyricsts’s songs happen to become a better and popular song, then Vairamuthu might start losing his chances. New lyricsts Thaamarai, P.Vijay, Kapilan and Muthukumar are writing reasonably decent lyrics.
Incidentally the greatest poet Kannadasan had accepted to write just one song in some movies while Vaali wrote all other songs. There are many movies where Kannadaasan and Vaali shared the songs.
Vairamuthu needs to be broad minded to let the youngsters get their chances…

Can't comment or can't give my advises to VM to be broadminded.
It is upto an individual person to decide on what kind of work he needs and what kind of respect he needs. If VM thinks that writing only few songs in a movie is a disrespect for him, then, be it. Just because Kannadasan did it, doesn't make that, he also should do it.
It is all their individual freedom and decisions.
Somewhere read that, when the film Murattu Kaalai was scheduled to start, they were looking for a prominent actor for the Villain role.
At that time, Vijaya Kanth, who acted as Hero in couple of hit movies, was in a difficult period of being without any movies for him.
So, they approached VK to find out if he could do that Villain part. Eventhough he was jobless, he rejected it hoping that he will get hero chances in future.
Then Jai Shankar took that role and acted as a villain, which was his first(I guess) villan role.
Had VK taken that role, he would not still be continuing in TFM with the current status(more probably). So, it is all their individual decisions.
As far as us (fans) we only hope, ARR and VM would re-unite. Otherwise no problem, since nothing is going to stop since it is very natural that REPLACEMENTS will always occur and keep on occuring.
When IR and MR broke-up, they did not loose anything at all, personally. MR still makes movies. IR still composes music and more importantly he is like a Banyan tree where his branches(children) already decended down and have become ariel roots.
But, may be the fans may have lost the sweet melodies of their combination. But instead, we see the highly energetic, charismatic, vibrative songs from MR and ARR combination.
So, a REPLACEMENT occurred.
