Maestro ILAIYARAAJA Interview on ASIANET TV

  Balaji,
  I have not edited any "interview" portion of the interview. Some songs of IR were played in between the interview which I had recorded only half from the TV. I edited only those portions from the real-audio version.
  The interview ended abruptly? May be some recording problem, or the telecast was cutoff towards the end. But I feel the interview had a logical ending.
  Ram mentions that there was an IR interview last week on DD. My request to you all, that if anymore interviews gets telecast on TV, please record them so that many others will benefit.

  I liked one answer he gave to the question abt so many new MD's in the field today. It goes ..
  
  Music should come naturally (out of a person).. it shd'nt come after days and days of tinkering with the instruments. Quote ".. summa ukaanthu thatti thatti music podarathu ellorum seiyalaam .." unQuote .. and he went on to ask the interviewer " Aen neenga music poda mudiyathaa.??" ;-))
  
  May sound arrogant to some, but the fact is these days songs are engineered too much..( to put it blunt ..too much of re-cycling and Cut and paste )
  that's why these days MD's take months to compose and record songs.
  
  Only IR can make a comment abt the speed of composing. other MD's are no where near in this aspect..

  Also I want to add that I did not find his comments abt Rajini wrong.. The interviewer asked "neengal rajini'yudan Thiruvannaamalai Kovilukku poneergalaame.?" for which he answered " Naan avarudun pogavillai, avar thaan ennudan varukiren enru ennai varpuruthi ennuudan vanthaar".
  
  Just the fact that he mentioned that Rajini insisited on going with him to that place means nothing wrong.

  Just heard IR's Interview. I feel that IR did not say anything wrong about Rajini, infact he has told what he feels openly i.e he would like to visit the place alone.
  I feel that the paatukku mettu and mettuku paatu Q should be avoided hereafterwards. The explanation has been given by IR couple of times.
  IR has many times told that his guru is MSV and you cannot blame him for missing his name or KVM name in the Interview.

  One thing I didn't understand from the interview..
  Once IR says that Lyrics itself has music in it. He goes on to describe a song and he extracts music from it .." ennai yaarendru enni enni nee paarkiraai". ie.. music can be a derivative of lyrics. But lyrics is not a derivative of music. Then later he he says that lyrics is not important, etc....
  Anyone understood that part?

  If you guys start analysing each and every statement of IR and try to corroborate...Hmmm... I cannot be optimistic about your usage of time-))))
  A master of music he is and he will be -but had never been even a jack of words when it comes to interviews... Please check out his old interview in Frontline (link available at newtfmpage)

  His point is - since music is encoded in the lyrics, he cannot compose for a given lyrics with its inherent tune (not necessarily good from his point of view). He will give the best tune (again from his point of view) and lyrics should be written to it. Or if you want him to orchestrate for a song you better be a good lyricist with good sense of music (and in his opinion VM is not that kind of guy, this is my inference) .
  
  (I think this is why Rock/Pop music is popular - lyrics/tune go well with each other).

  To continue my earlier post,
  I remember the main feud between IR and VM started because IR interfered in the lyrics. He wanted some words to be changed because it did not fit well with the notes of the tune. So it is a matter of opinion of who knows what words go with what notes. Obviously, IR insisting that he is the expert in this field and VM insisting he will not be subservient to the MD.

  Thanks Shibu for the link. It was interesting hearing an interview of this kind... In general, we only get to hear interviews where people try to project themselves as being nice, humorous etc.. IR was brutally honest in his remarks and may be he has a point in what he said. Also I got this impression that the interviewer lacked any real knowledge on music in general. His questions were mostly cliched.. Wish the DF'ers get to "chat" with IR on the net sometime.. Any takers for that?

  IR is becoming expert only in invading others with his highly provacated statements. If he gets a chance, he can even stab the guy whoever interviewing him. His deteriorting music knowledge turns him to be aggressive with everyone and nothing to be wondered why he is like that which is bcoz of his less chances in the film field

  "IR's deteriorating music knowledge"- I dont know if IR is making provacative statements but you sure are. Now cant you just hold back and let atleast a few threads from degenerating into meaningless fight rings?
  BTW, I dont think IR's interview is 'provacating' at all! thats a joke. anyways, he ofcourse could have been less controversial by just muttering "ella pughazhum iraivanukke!" to all the questions!!

  I don't think its right to call IR --with a deteriorating music knowledge.I strongly disagree with that.
  Let anyone prove like him first.
