I have been wanting to ask this for sometime.
What was Vairamuthu thinking when he wrote Strawberry Kanney? Is it really a compliment to describe someone's eyes as like strawberry? If I see a girl with eyes like strawberries, I would stay at least 10 feet away, because it might be something contagious!
Or is there a different meaning to this, that I missed? (Hari, you can have your revenge now!!)

Need I say more? :-))
Just cant wait to get my hands on "Guru"...
A minor(?) digression....
1. Is there going to be a movie called "Alex"?
If so, the MD?
2. ManiRathnam's hindi movie with Shahrukh Khan is
going to be called "Dil Se"...
MD?

Thx for the compliments, but I think Vairamuthu is doing well in selected songs even though he's no Kannadhasan. BTW, the lyrics you laid out for your Jeans prank sounded just like what VM would write! :-)))

To Kitcha :
MD of Dil Se is ARR.
I have heard the Ratchakan album couple of times now. It is amazing how it has started to sound better and better as usual ARR albums(Surprise Surprise!!!). What do you guys think now about Ratchakan?
Does anyone know when Dil Se audio is releasing?
Comments please.

Kitcha & Shankar - Alex's MD is yet to be confirmed, though the possibility of it being IR is very high. Anyway, (with due respects to Rajni fans) don't expect fantastic songs from Rajni movies! Aaah! If it were a Maniratnam or Bharathiraja or even Kamal movie........ then things would be different.
Thambi Kitcha - Do not write off Ratchakan yet.... and the Net is not the best of places to listen to songs :-)))
I agree with Himanshu that Ratchakan songs get better after hearing them repeatedly (not only a couple of times, Himanshu!)

I would say, when U hear rakshakan songs more and more, U get used to it!! I am writing this after experiencing it.The same happened to me in the case of anna nagar aandaalu (kaalamellam kaadal vaazhga).wherever I go i used to hear (not listen) this song and one day (involuntarily)i found myself murmuring the song. That's the case with Rakshagan also (this is totally my opinion .No offense meant. Please don't start arguing with me regarding this)
NOV anna,
I think ur statement regarding rajni's movies not having good songs ,i feel, is not correct. Please listen to veera(mottai's last movie with rajni)and oruvan oruvan from muthu. They are good/ok (of course, they can't be compared with those deadly combo of MR-IR,kamal-IR,mahendran-IR and BR -IR)
I saw in kumudam or AV (a month ago)that IR *IS* the MD for alex.

Shankar thambi - While respecting your opinion, I must say that I am not merely hearing Ratchakan songs; I am beginning to ENJOY them! :-)) For instance, Lucky lucky sounded artificial and the accent put-on, in the beginning. Now, while singing along, I (along with my 6-year old son) enjoy the fun song.
I believe I didn't say that Rajni's movies does not have good songs. What I mean is that don't hold your breath for Rajni's songs....... :-)))

NOV: I really disagree with your statement. There have been lot of wonderful songs from Rajini movies, esp. with IR as the MD. It might be true that other MDs haven't given great songs in his movie.. but when he was at his peak other MDs except ARR didn't have the stuff to produce great music. :)

How was your Vacation ? enakku munne vandhu kalakkureenga :))
Unga indha threadda ippa dhaan paarthaen. Excellent discussions. I could not read all of them yet. But even I was almost ready to type a mail to you personally as to where you heard the Jeans song Kannam thotta Vennila, but I realised that I can see your response later and saw your prank, good one Thalaivaa, Keep it up!.
BTW, Rakshagan & Kabhi na Kabhi songs are the only songs that I am hearing for the past 3 weeks :) I
liked the Kayil Midhakkum song better than Chandiranai thottadhu yaar.
After listening for 3 weeks continously, I started liking the Soniya Soniya, Mercury Pookkal, Bombay Madras Delhi except the Lucky Lucky Song.
Also in Kabhi na Kabhi though I do not understand the wordings of Hindi Songs very much, the tune and the song of Tu Hi Tu and Theri Nighaho mein is simply amazing.
I will describe about these songs later.

Hi Bhaskar - Nice to have you back with us. We need a lot more people, with balanced views, on the DF. How was your trip bak to thaai naadu?
I have listened to Ratchakan many times and I am sorry to say that it is nowhere as good as even Minsara Kanavugal. The songs are okay, I suppose, but I really expected ARR to do better. Let us see what Jeans can offer.
Neeks - I saw the site and was thrilled to see an Indian's name and profile there. To all (ARR fans, haters and fence-sitters) Take pride in the fact that a fellow Indian has made it to the international scene. (I haven't bought the Vande Mataram cassette, but again that is a different story :-))

Happened to hear 'chanthiranai thottathu yaar' from rakshagan. Nice song. Not much of noise and wailing. No dangerous experiments with untrained 'voices'. No murdering of Tamil. Nice to hear such songs from ARR also.

Hi All,
I had chance to listen to Telugu version of "Ratchakan" yesterday. I liked "Nenje Nenje" and "Kayil Mithakkum". FYI, "Kayil Mithakkum" was sung in Telugu version by RANGAN. This is the first time, I have listened to him. He sang the song very well (his voice is somewhere in between UnniKrishnan and KJY). I will rate it the best.
Carnatic Music Knowledgeable Persons :-- if you have listened to this song, I have few questions:
1. Is that song based on any RAGA
2. If yes, can you let me know.
As some of them pointed, the recording is not up to ARR's mark....
I pity Unni and Harini for the "Soniya" song, The lyrics are BAD -- lot of english words and poor meaning (I belive it is made for the masses) . Is it the same case with Tamil song. I felt really sad for Harini for the wording she has got!! (since I personally like her way of singing and voice)....
more later,

Arun - In most people's opinion, ARR's earlier scores for Roja, Gentleman and Thiruda-Thiruda were very good. So, my complete statement should have been:
I have listened to Ratchakan many times and I am sorry to say that it is nowhere as good as even Minsara Kanavugal, let alone, Roja, Gentleman or Thiruda-Thiruda.
Makes sense?
On another note, I am feeling more at home with Ottam and Mona Lisa songs.

Neeks:
I listened to those two new songs.
Masoom is a melodious one, but I wasn't very impressed after listening to it just once.
Musafir is a variation with the tune of oattagathai kattikko but is very interesting to listen to. Except for the pallavi's tune of oattagathai kattikko everything else is different and it feels unbelievably fresh and sounds very international. I can understand why they added it to the US release. Very catchy, completely different formula ... listen to it when you get a chance you will know what I am talking about.

Guys, I think this is not fair, letting people like us buy the first version of VM CD and then releasing this new version with two additional tracks to make us buy again? It would be great, if SONY comes up with "Singles" CD with just these 2 tracks and sell it for aroung 5-6 bucks and I wouldn't mind buying it. But, that will happen only in my dream. Meanwhile, I will spend another $16 buckaroos to listen to those 2 tracks.

Bhaskar - Thaaraalama yellavitha queries-um keilungal. That is the precise reason for this DF! Have you heard the songs? (The more I read about everyone's predicaments on the net, the more I realise how much I have taken for granted about the easy availability of TFM here in Malaysia!)

Thalaiva NOV:
I am taking it for granted that you are asking me how the songs were in Mona Lisa or Kabhi Na Kabhi.
I have just heard Kabhi Na Kabhi so far, so I will describe the songs one by one :))) should be the same for tamil except for Vairamuthu's Lyrics.
Two songs stands out as very unique in tune, instrumentation, technology and orchestration.
1. "Tu hi Tu" sung by SPB and Chitra - Excellent start with a beautiful percussion goes like "bla bla bla bla bla bla Aaaaaaaaaa :)))", the background rythm of beats and the various harmonics creates an immmense sound effect which is very pleasing to the ears, starts the song with a classical touch. The music inbetween the paragraph are very well paced seems to be very relevant to the opening music, then again the tune for the inbetween paragraph is also excellent with a similar pace and very appropriate to the first paragraph. The music that comes after the second paragraph is again the percussion that comes at the starting very beautifully blent with the beats. Though I could understand only little the meaning of the song, the tune and the music simply drowns you in a day dream. Another unique creation by ARR and could be one of the best by ARR.
2. "Meri Nidahon pe chaayee" Sung by Hariharan, I do not know how the wordings starts in Tamizh. This song is one of the most unique creations so far I have heard in TFM including IR's creations. This song starts with an initial flute music like in Bombay theme music, but immediately changes its way to a beautiful Symphony. Then there is lot of voilin's coming up in the background taking the song turn in to a pure symphony. Hariharan starts with a slow and melodious pace the tune very similar to one of the voilins and merged very well in to the song. There are no beats in this song, the sounds from big violins act like beats. Eventhough lot of our TFM friends who listen to western classical music may be able to immediately point out to a direct lift of the symphony from some album, the way ARR has presented the symphony into a Film song is really creative.
I guess it makes some sense. If not please run your imaginations wild :)))))
