I love Madras Tamil. To me the quintessential Madras Tamil song is "Va Vadhyare Oottande." Manorama renders this song brilliantly. In fact, I would vote to put her in TFM hall of fame based on this one song!
Can the forumers come up with others?

Would Gana qualify as Madras Tamil? Or does it transcend geographical barriers?

Pettai Rap is one song that has substantial madras-tamizh words in it.
"Rajaa kaiya vecha.." has quite a bit of madras tamizh words like "bejaar" etc in it.
"Madrasai-sutthi-kaata poren" in may madham has interludes which are in madras tamizh.. again by aachi manorama - "thunnanum bannu... unnai kothikinu povaan porampokku etc etc.."

How about that Chithra-IR song, from Rajkiran's film. There were words like 'bejaar' etc, etc. I forgot the charanam.

"Vaa Machchaan vaa vannaarappaettai" is the quintessential Madras song.
Especially, "thattaendaa thaalaththa kaithae un moonjeela vechchaennaa kayyae" is a gem of a line with a beautifully wrought rhyme scheme that manages to imbue the song with authentic vernacular.
"Poondhamalliyilae oru ponnu pinnaalae" by SPB and Manorama is a rarity, a cross breed of Telungu and Thamizh, the sources for the alloy that is Madras Thamizh.

Madras tamizh is the worst and most disgusting language ever heared so far. It is amazing even some educated people talking like
" pinnAle vanthukine irukkirAn sAvu grAkki.. "
without giving respect even for senior citizens.
Deva's gana songs feature words from this language as they usually have words kurukku paettai, koyambedu, akka, machchan , soru , dAvu , karuvadu etc.
koththavAl savadi lady and vitha vithama soppu seeppu kannAdi to name as his classics :-)
The lyrics are atrocious in most cases,
machchAn machchAn kuLir kAlam
ungakkA pOna arakkonam
avaLa thaedi nAnu pOnen
ange ava varakkAnOm
these line come from a song starts like "vAnguda 420 beeda, kaiyila bankada soda.. " from some movie.

paamaran,
" vanthanam vanthanam vantha sanam ", is based on 'grAmiya ' tamizh. It is NOT madras tamil.. specially the lines thangama thillAle .. .
BTW, words machchAn / mAman have origins from villages, though madras tamizh uses them.

paamaran,
the song from ellam inba mayam is 'maaman voodu machi voodu.. parisam pottadhu kuchi voodu'. the class part is the start of the song-- where kamal interrupts the nadhaswara goshti's music and demands something cheerful. hilarious! :-)

"......naan innatha paNNuvaedi ponnaththa..pallaavaram laari owneru pokkirippayyan pogachchonna bengaloru".
this is madras song like our deva's "kotha(va)al chavadi lady".
dont remember the start of the song. What i gave is the second(?) line from pallavi sung by male. the song, i think, starts with female voice(most probably LRE).
This is a old film song hero=jaishankar, heroine=bharathy. this song is sung by ranjan and bharathy as a film song in the shooting. bharathy is a heroine as per the movie story.
i don't remember the film name. but the film story is jaishankar, monohar, thengai(?) are convicts, they escape from jail, do lot of good things including hero(jaishankar) save the heroine bharathy from the reel-life-hero ranjan.
mostly this film is a modern theatre productions' one.

Friends,
>>>>"......naan innatha paNNuvaedi ponnaththa..pallaavaram laari owneru pokkirippayyan pogachchonna bengaloru". <<<<
It was Modern's 'naangu kilaadigaL'. I saw it on TV once. The starting female lines were something like ' ennaaththa, enna nee paakave varalla ' types! Male lines sounded like 'mallaavaram lorry owneru, lorry Otti pogach chonnaan bengaLooru'. I was wondering where is mallaawaram! The music for this song is composed (in the film within film, produced by the killaadis!) by a band party which specialises in funeral music! Once they mistake a sleeping RS Manohar for a dead body and start performing full blast! Manohar wakes up and blasts them! RS Manohar's frequent 'Meenaatchi ratchi' is also very enjoyable.
