Time to time our MDs come with innovative ideas in their songs, which stand quite different from other songs and so nice to hear too. This is not abt great interludes/beats, but abt those new ideas. For ex., the overlapping lines in En Kanmani En Kaadhali, the parallel singing in Vaa Vaa Manjal Malare. Let us discuss about such songs and the ideas in this threads.

poomalaiye thol seravaa and kanmaniye kaathal enbathu are another examples which I can immediately think of.

Rakkamma Kaiyya Thattu - Dalapathy. Usage of a lot of violins (someone said 130 violins!) and a great finish - changing from fast paced western type music to a slow paced devotional.

"Ada Machamulla machhan" from CHINNA VEEDU.....This song has wonderful fusion between Carnatic and western notes......the merge being very very subtle.....
"Paruvame pudhiya paadal" from NENJATHAI KILLATHE....just with the sound of footsteps being the BGM, can be considered as a different kind of innovation for that time.

"Enna Samaiyalo" of Unnal Mudiyum Thambi. The lyrics were aptly written by Raja himself. Surely a composer's joy to write/compose such a song.
Wonder why the same song appeared as "Samaiyal Padame" of Manippoor Maamiyaar, a film I guess which never got released.

None of the postings have mentioned old songs. Well, here are a few:
1. The sound of the horse-galloping in "Rajavin Paarvai Raaniyin Pakkam" - I think this is the predecessor to "Parvuvame Pudhiya Paadal..".
2. "Andha NaaL Nyaabagam" - a tune in the style of a dialogue delivery was an innovation in those days.
3. "Sirippil Undaagum Raagathile" - a novel imagination.
4. "Naa naa naa naaaa....Nithale Inikkum" - a song almost without any lyrics!

'sippi irukuthu' from varumayin niram sivappu was novel in that it had SJ humming the tune and SPB repeating it with lyrics.
the 'aarohanam only' song - kalaivaaaniye in sindhu bhairavi.
mimicry filled 'kadavul amaithu veitha medai' from aval oru thodarkathai
i liked 'oru naal podhuma' from thiruvilayaadal in which the charanam had each line composed in a different raga (raagamaalika) like mohanam, thodi, darbaar etc. music by KMV.
the transition from english to tamil lyrics and vice versa was so smooth in the song 'all the time' in nadodi thendral.
and talking about songs without lyrics, what about
'niveda' from nee padhi naan paadhi sung by SPB.
