The music and the tune bring the words alive.. I think that should be the criteria as well for the SOTC (Song Of The Century)..

in reality, i will choose "andhi mazhai pozhigirathu" or "pudhu vellai mazhai", as they brought about a sound revolution in TFM which has changed the whole nature of TFM.

why not ask peope to nominate some songs and then vote for it. That would be different.

but then there are some things we have to define.

where does this century stop?
1999 or 2000

If it is 1999 or 2000 let us postpone this topic for two or three years.
Because you see , we all decide the best song of the century(!!!) and then some one gives the song of the century next year ( Marudha Nayakanm comes next year), then we will have to redo the whole thing .

May be we can request ravi to get the nominations for the song of the century now and vote in 2000 or 2001.

well, if we want to vote the song of the century
we need to go to different eras in music..and only those who had really done this can actually comment on this..If we see the list of songs that our friends had chosen ,they are invariably from the 80's and the 90's (exceptions are not examples)..shall we talk abt one era at a time

It seems that there is a Superhit Muqabla going on for the song of the century.If you consider IR
gems,then it is only superhit and there is no muqabla.To name a few,Idhu oru ponmalai,Kalyana Malai,Mandram Vandha etc.This discussion should include MD's and not CC's(copy cats).

hell, this is lotsa fun, nanbargale. personally, i would say its a toss-up between Andhi Mazhai and En Uyir Thozhi from Karnan. What a song!!! KVM's mind-blowing tune with out-of-the-world lyrics by Kannadhaasan and some celestial singing by P. Suseela, not to mention the terrific picturisation. Man, this song sends me over the top. btw, what raga is it set to, can any technical party tell me?

i don't think music karnan is scored by KVM but it is MSV and Ramamurthy. the song en uyir thizhi keladi sedhi is set in the the ragam 'hamirkalyani' (may be pronounced as 'amirkalyani'). I would say the SOTC will be the one from ponnumani. tye song is
'nenjukkulle ennarunnu sonna theriyuma'. i think the raga of that song is 'keeravani'
