Electronization of music started happening probably from 70's. Especially after 90's music was modulated/created with extensive use of computers/synthesizers. It did appeal to a great extent during the starting days, however, after that has become the "trend", now, it is hard indeed to look for a genuine, good music (hope many agree). What happened to the wonderful unnamed musicians, who were being the part of so many wonderful orchestrations? What are the other options left for them? Are we bound to loose them eventually?? Only less have been talked about them.

Hi Fliflo...saw this topic only now.
I think on the contrary, computerization of music is inspiring many individuals to tap their talents. You just have to read the "Amateur composers" here in TFM page to know.
Of course, I do agree that recently TFM has taken a rather steep nose dive but then maybe its a world phenomena (you can also notice the quality of discussions and contributors deteriorating here in this forum).
I think its more like when Desktop Publishing came on the scene, it gave the power to design to even non-artists...the same is happening in music now. But like all laws of nature, only the superior and quality oriented will survive. Of course, we will have garbage and rubbish floating around too...facts of life, we can't escape them.

I am sure even this thread will ultimately end in an IR-ARR debate :-)

I agree with the point you said. My true concern was "what happened to so many untold artists, who had exceptional training and capabilities (say violinists, guitarists...so on)? What do they do now?? I do not think you have addressed that point at all.

I think this pop-synth phase of music would give way to genuine instruments sooner or later. In western music, this has already happened for good measure as evinced by the fading away of European pop and strong emergence of modern rock.
Good thing about the keyboard though is one can produce reasonably good music on a low budget (and perhaps low talent). However one wishes AR would have more Tabla and other indian instruments for the rhythm instead of synthesised beats.

Fliflo :
Ramakrishna has a good point there....
Even with my experiments with computer synthesized music, i found that you don't get the qulaity and texture of a human instrumentalist say when you need a violin or a flute piece added to your composition. SO there is no way instrumentalists will go out of business...composers and music directors will need them ultimately. Even ARR uses top-notch instrumentalists for his music. Haven't you read the credit section on many of his album covers ?

yep cosmician.. u r right.. top-notch ppl are used but just for a single second or two ... with rare exceptions like Kadri gopalnath used as main player/instrument.
