Just wondering if I could get some info...thats why this thread. Guess people in middle east could help better!
I had recently dug out the original (with the help of fellow DF'er Krishna Mohan) of Sirpy's 'azhagiya laila' - Its a song 'ahla ma feki' by Hisham Abbas. The song has been added in the copied page.
A few other song's original still eludes me...
IR:
Vikram - 'en jodi manjakuruvi' - Is it inspired anyway?
Sirpy:
Mettukudu - 'anbu kaadhalane'
Mettukudi - 'velvetta velvetta'
Vidyasagar:
Priyam - 'dilruba dilruba'
A R Rahman:
Pavitra - 'mottu vittatha mottu vittatha'
Does anybody else know anymore middle eastern influences in TFM. A recent episode of nayyandi darbar had a guest (forgot his name) saying that most middle eastern songs have a base of mayamalava gowlai raagam! And its a popular raagam in TFM too, incidentally.

IMHO the only MD in tamil music industry who stays in tamil industry just because of middle eastern's music is sirpy who copies all the songs from any middle eastern's albums

thats mostly because of the success he tasted with ullathai alli tha. otherwise every md in TFM has been inspired by middle eastern tunes, some time or other. Its like spanish and latin music, which have long been used in TFM and HFM.

i think kinnaththil then vadiththu has a strong ME influence.
and many old songs such as azhagana ponnuthaan also show deep shades of this style, mainly because of its presence in hindi film music.

actually the influence of middle east music in our films cannto be avoided because it has got more touch of our music or vice versa.so if you listen to most of the songs in tfm it sounds like middle east music. The latest song with this influence is 'nilavu pattu nilavu pattu'from the movie 'kannukkul nilavu'

en jOdi manjakkuruvi is an adaptation of a jewish folksong. IR himself mentioned this in an interview when the film was released. You can hear a variant of this melody in a western starring Goldie Hawn released in the 70s/early 80s.
