  S Jaanaki's peak too was in the 70's and 80's.
  You have a first hand knowledge of the period.
  Why don't you send some intriguing tit bits about the politics in general and the realpolitik of the era, here? I am knowledgeless about it. Moreover I was a child in the early 80's.

  Mild politics is all right! You must have noticed that I stick to topics that are non-controversial or that are so popular that they cease to be called controversial any longer! All that I know of S Janaki's career graph is that, after years of waiting, it started soaring only after IR's entry with 'annakkiLi'.
  
  I would still request you to join the VJ thread which has survived all these years and has a better chance, even today, of avoiding slipping into the archives!!!

She is not waiting for anybody, she was very busy in Kannada and Malayalam.One more thing SJ was not only favourite to IR she was also favourite to GKV too.(I read one GKV's kannada interview very long back)GKV's all most all compositions{gems} are sung by SJ.   Yes of course Jaanaki's peak in Taamil started with I R. But in Kannada she had been dominating since early 70's, courtesy the makers of thousands of melodies, Raajan-Naagendra.
  (Or that you don't give Kannada even a plucked hen?)
