Vikram's 'Arul' gets rolling!
- 20-12-2003
After giving three mega hits in the year 2003- 'Dhool', 'Saami' and 'Pitamagan', Vikram is soon going to open the 2004 innings.
Two giants come together to make 'Arul'- Director Hari, who is gaining reputation of being a mega-budget director and Vikram, who is being described as the next Superstar.
As usual, Hari is repeating his favorite Music Director, Harris Jayaraj in this film too. And, Jyothika plays VIkram's love interest in this film.
Since this is a Vikram-Hari team up, there is a heavy competition to buy the distribution rights. If this film becomes a big hit too, then Vikram would be the second highest paid hero in Tamil cinema, after Superstar Rajini, say speculators. 'Arul', which has begun amidst big expectations, will be released on Tamil New Year Day.
Three big films have already been lined up to be released on April 14th- Vijay's 'Gilli', Ajith's 'Ji' and director Manirathnam's film starring Surya and Madhavan, 'Aayutha Yezhuthu'.

Any news about ‘Arul’?
Actually, Harris Jayaraj is not interested in composing music for films like ‘Saami’, ‘Kovil’ and ‘Arul’. He is very selective about his films because he wants to maintain his standard and quality. “But masala films confuse me. I had composed tunes for the film ‘Saami’ only reluctantly. But, this is the film that had got my music everywhere.” That’s his confusion. He was unable to do anything different in the film ‘Kovil’, but he doesn’t want to repeat that in the film ‘Arul’.
Alright Madan, let me give you the results that I know about the Pongal releases. ‘Virumandi’ is creating waves of excitement, but the film is very violent. You cant enjoy watching the film, but Kamal has proved his talent again. ‘Pudhukottayil Irundhu Saravanan’, ‘Jai’ and ‘Kovil’ have been average grosser. The comedy of ‘Yengal Anna’ is fantastic. Next week I want you to give me the collection reports of all these films, okay Madan?

its either another Saami (Super hit) or Kovil (Utter flop) for Hj,depends on audience taste,he tried to fool us by giving Kokko Meenai coz he thinks we will be still the same dumb once who made his kalyanamthaan famouse,so he was confidence Kooku Meenai will be another Kalyanam, but looks like its the worse flop for Hj,deserves him right!

if HJ is not intereseted in composing music for films like ‘Saami’, ‘Kovil’ and ‘Arul’...then why he signed up this movies in the first place??? come on Harris, don't think we're fool..

Hari leaves 'Arul' in a huff!
By Moviebuzz
Saturday, 31 January , 2004, 11:56
The happenings on the sets of Vikram’s Arul is becoming more bizarre! After director Hari sacked comedian Vivek, he himself has staged a walkout from the project and left the location in a huff! All this happened after he had a difference of opinion with Ajay Kumar, the producer of the film.
Hari left the Karaikudi locations and came down to Chennai to cool his heels leaving Vikram, Jyothika, Pasupathi and the entire unit behind. Ajay Kumar is said to have made references to Hari’s inability to direct the film after the Kovil fiasco and this is said to have irritated the director.
Vikram is also said to be unhappy about the way some of the scenes and developments in the story were picturised and the buzz is that Arul has the Saamy hangover. The music of Harris is also said to be repetitive and Hari’s Kovil too had striking similarities in song picturisations of Saamy.
Now the latest we hear is that Vikram came down to Chennai to sort out the issue between the producer and director. Hari is demanding a written statement from Ajay saying that he will not be interfering in the making of Arul.

I think Arul is another version of saamy. director Hari is not innovative thats why uses vikram who is at his best nowadays. This movie is likely to compete with Gilli i guess. All you see in tamil movies nowadays are he same masala they've seen the last decades.

Preview
Arul
Hari makes it a point to shoot his films in different locations. This time, he has chosen Coimbatore. Vikram works in a Cotton Mill. But, his life is transformed when something dreadful happens.
This is the next film from the successful Vikram-Hari team. The film has created big expectations. ‘Arul’ Vikram had gone to Kerala for special treatment to make his face look bright. For the second time, Jyothika is getting together with Vikram after ‘Dhool’. Her sole costume throughout the film is half-saree.
This is Harris Jayaraj’s third film with director Hari.
The film has 10 times the action sequences that ‘Saami’ had.
Vikram’s stunt sequence with the ‘Kuthuvilakku’ is sure to win applause in the theatres.
Though the film is based in Coimbatore, most of the shooting takes place in Karaikudi.
It was Vivek who was signed up for the film first, but clashes with the director led to his removal. Now, Vadivelu is taking care of the comedy department.

Guys yesterday in vikatan, vikram had told that he is acting as an employee working in a jewellery shop.
And regarding his kerala treatment, he went to a resort called vythiri resort in wayanad district. That resort is famous for traditional ayurvedic massage with different types of oils.
Infact even I have been to that resort. There thhey have vikram's snap in that particular resort.

and it seems Jothika went to Thailand for a massage where they charge depending on the massage surface area and she ended up paying more than the usual standard rate.
Vadivel went to Kuttraalam and had an oil massage before the shooting started.
Seeing these, Harris Jayaraj wanted to goto London to get a massage.
athanaala thaan Hari oru massage..che.. message kooda solaama, oditaaru.

Kollam Thulasi in Arul
The much awaited Arul starring Vikram with director Hari has Kollam Thulasi, the Malayalam actor playing the villain. Hari had introduced Kota Srinivasa Rao as villain in Saamy. Now Thulasi a stage-film actor plays the villain. He plays the role of a politician based in Kovai. He crosses swords with the hero over an accidental death of his brother (Pasupathi) an MLA at the hands of Vikram. This role of Thulasi is considered to be on par with the role of Kalabhavan Mani who acted as villain in Gemini. Kollam Thulasi has been cast in villainous roles and has completed 100 films and he made his entry in the Tamil film Samurai starring Vikram directed by Balaji Shaktivel.
