Swami, your James Gosling analogy is really great. Everybody who writes a Java program should not think they are Gosling or start advising Gosling to concentrate more on his code :).

Swami,
Nice thoughts..
Kiru,
How is that u always refelect what I have in Mind..
All u need is a Casio/Yamaha kb to say u are a musician these days .. ;-))) How silly to advise IR to concentrate on songs.?? u could on the other hand comment abt his marketing or the lack of it.. But asking him to focus on music/songs is like ... well.. need i say more.?
Cheers
MSK

Hello everyone,
Honestly when I made the posting, I had absolutely no intention of attacking anyone personally. So let's not get into that. Peace :-)

Now, some more observations on Time:
1. Sujatha sings well the `niRam pirithu' as well as `kAdhal nee dhana' songs... she's improving like anything...her performance in this album is really commendable. Earlier this year, she had sung nicely in `Friends'(mal) as well (kadal katril), almost outperformed KJY!
(However, I would prefer if an `younger PS' had sung niRam pirithu, as the song reminds her period...pArthEn...pArthEn...pArthE'''n)
2. PB has done a decent job with lyrics. `kAdhal nee dhAna' endru azhagaga `uruvagam' use panni iruppadhu oru example...I especially liked the 2nd stanza of this song, which goes like:
unniK: `enna kanavu kandAi?'
sujatha: `nee vanthAi, muththam thandhAi'
unniK: `badhilukkenna thandhAi?'
sujatha: `pO, pO, pO..solla mattEn pO'
...makes you jump back into your younger days, while still maintaining the decency levels....
3. Bhava at her worst...before this I had a chance to hear just two of her songs (alai meedhu & idhu sangeetha thirunalO) which were too good to `blind/deafen' you and hence miss any of her flaws.. but in thavikkiren & muthu nilave, all her deficiencies in singing are manifest...what, she can't even pronounce n,N,l,L properly, which is the last thing one would expect from a vArisu of Raja!

Swami, yours was a nice / rightly written mail.
There was a song from a KB's movie (Rahman and Sruthi had acted) I remember two lines which I feel suit the most for our Isaignani. Ironically these lines are penned by VM I think.
"ThaLaiyil Kreedam UnnaKetharkku ?
ThaLaiye Kreedam ThaanuNakku ! "

Subbiah,
Nice quote !
However these lines are penned by 'Ilantheevan' in the movie 'Kalki'

Today morning I met Isaignani. There was a small 'Book Release' function at Mylapore at 8 a.m. Isaignani released the book called 'Indre, Ingaeyae, Ippozhuthae' written by one Mrs.Mathi Oli Saraswathi and Dr.M.S. Udhayamurthi received the first copy.
Isaignani was described as 'Isai-thathuvam' in the welcome address. Isaignani also spoke well. There was this 'AAnmigam' in his eyes and speech that I could not relate any film music with him at all. My friend Sriram and me had taken colour print-outs of his photos downloaded from the net and got them autographed.
He listened with interest about these pictures taken from the net. He patiently obliged everyone's request for individual photos. Even Dr.M.S. Udhayamurthy was particular that he takes a separate photo with Isaignani.
In his speech, he said " Oru Aruvi-yai thoorathil paarkumbothae nam Ullathil oru Kullirchi thondrum. Athupol nalla manitharkalai paarkumpothum Nam manam Kulirum. Naan indru intha vizhaavil athai unnarkiraen."
It was a small / little / decent crowd at 8 a.m. That Mrs. Mathi Oli Saraswathi was releasing her 25 th book it seems. She releases one book on every christmas morning. Her first book was released by MGR it seems. When she spoke about Isaignani, her voice shivered. She said ' Isaiyum , Aanmeegamum Azhivatravai. Ilayaraja indha irrandin parimaanam' . She also read a beautiful 'Venba' about him - which I do not remember fully.
Sorry for my 'not so good' tami-anglish. Anyway I just wanted to share my moment of happiness with all of you.

'Kannukkul Nilavu' cassette has been released.
First impression - Pretty decent album... definetely worth buying. There are totally 6 different songs, (1 song has been repeated, another comes twice with 2 different lyrics). 2 to 3 songs will definetely be hits.
Tirunellvi has also been released. Have'nt listened to it yet. BTW is R.B. Choudary the directory or producer for the movie. His name has been put where traditionally the director's name
is put in the cassette
Enjoy listening to both these albums...

hi friends
i'm reposting my "Kannukkul Nilavu" preview that is in the other thread, in sheer enthusiasm..
KANNUKKUL NILAVU
FAZIL, ILAIYARAAJA, PAZHANIBHARATHI
Side A
1. Nilavu Paattu - Hariharan
2. Oru Naal Oru Kanavu - KJ Yesudas, Anuradha Sriram
3. Endhan Kuyil Enge - Unnikrishnan, Anu. Sriram
4. Adida Melathe - SPB & chorus
Side B
5. Iravu Pagalai Theda - KJ Yesudas
6. Chinnanchiru - Chitra
7. Oru Naal Oru Kanavu - KJ Yesudas
8. Roja Poonthottam - Unnikrishnan, Anu. Sriram
first impressions:
* Anuradha Sriram gets to sing 2 nos., probably debuting under IR's baton? she's done a fine job
* which means no Bhava, finally, to mess up the best songs in the album:)
* KJY is back, with a bang! combines with IR to create magic like no other duo's done in some time
* Oru Naal Oru Kanavu wins my personal vote for song of the year
* Chinnanchiru is bound to go down as an alltime classic on Chitra's list
* for all those mourning the loss of traditional instrumentation from IR scores - they're back, violins, flutes, guitar et al in full flight!
* song nos. 2 & 7 are repeats, 2 a duet and 7 a solo
*#3 and 8 are again repeat tunes, but with diff. lyrics
* this is a truly enchanting album; scores over Kadhalukku Mariyadhai 10:1
* perhaps one of P.bharathi's best efforts; I haven't come across an English/ Tanglish word (except maybe in song#4,which I've tended to skip now and then) in about 5 hearings until now..
* Adida Melathe is a typical dabbanguthu, but SPB injects it with a vigour of his own
I don't think I've gone overboard. IR seems to have found his balance again, and this one is a sure topper, take it from me!! Goes to show again that you need someone like Fazil to bring out his best..

me again..
i've been watching the recent exchanges, and i have this to say to srikkanth..
1) watch 'sethu' - only a dedicated composer like IR would've staked his box-office reputation to do songs like the one he's done for the movie, and given his all for the BGM. i understand your frustration at having bought the album, but please see the film... as SUN TV said quite rightly (once in a blue moon) - "unarvai urukkum kathaikku uyirai urukkum isaiyai thandhullar isaikartha ilaiyaraaja" - thirai vimarsanam
2) see 'muthalvan' and 'time' back-to-back, and see for yourself why IR's been just plain unlucky with the units he's been working with vis-a-vis ARR
2) get hold of kannukkul nilavu. will wait for your comments on the album..
Go IR!! Go! Go!
:)

Suresh,
While IR's efforts as far as BGM is concerned are commendable his efforts as far as the songs go is at best inconsistent. Sethu from what I hear is a pretty decent film and I thought IR would have been inspired to give some brilliant songs. But except for one song perhaps (which is also not that great) the rest of them are run-of -the-mill type songs lacking IR's class.
In this business, u lose or gain popularity only with u'r songs not with your BGM. The songs (along with other factors) are the ones that account for a majority of what is called the 'initial audience'(though personally I consider BGM as important as the story / screenplay of the film). Most of manirathnam and shankar's films fall in this category.
So naturally it is surprising as to why IR time and again concentrates on re-recording but does not innovate in songs. Does the 'lack of inspiration' apply only to songs and not to the BGMs?

Hi again. Has the cassette been released only in India? Is it available yet in Canada?
