I attended the Deva show on October 19th. Unfortunately, I was not impressed at all. The show featured such singers as Chitra Sivaraman, Rehana, Ganga, Jeyalakshmi, Tippu, Sabesh Murali, and a few other not-so popular singers. I was disappointed b/c the show advertised that Unnikrishnan, Sujatha, Anuradha Sriram, Srinivas, Shyam, and Sneha would perform, yet none of them were there. None of the singers were prepared, almost all of them made obvious mistakes in their performances. Rehana's rendition of O Podu (Gemini) was least to say, horrible. She was off-pitch in many verses, and her timing was off. Hopefully, future shows will not be as bad as this one. Please post your comments.

Ya. I was there too. The shock was really awful. I got up and left almost at the end. Rehana's rendition of O Podu was not bad since she didnt initially sang that song and plus their was no rehearsals for the show I guess. The best part of that song was when a guy climbed on the stage and the security was chasing him. Anyways, I know most of the singers didnt show up. I guess they didnt show up since the show got cancelled and postponed four times. The song selections werent that great also. I hope Deva never comes back to TO. Only Rahman can deliver the best live show like last time in TO. I guess we will have to wait next year's Rahman World Tour Concert.

Folks, if you had read Junior Vikatan couple of weeks ago there was a mention of US consulate investigating so-called music tours by indian film and classical musicians in which the musicians bring along people whose desire is to immigrate illegally to USA and Canada and never return to India. These illegal immigrants act as though they are part of the troupe, in fact, they are apparently given a few days musical training so if someone wants to verify they can cover themselves. These potential illegal immigrants disappear on arrival at the foreign country. In fact the article indirectly mentioned Deva as being one of them, several carnatic musicians are also involved in this scandal. These musicians get paid several lakhs in return - so this is a new scandal in which the so-called decent people in society participate. Shame on Indians for indulging in such acts and bringing further disrepute to the already suspected South Asian population. I'm not surprised that the top singers did not participate as the obvious intention of this tour was not to entertain genuine music loving audience.

I agree with the comments posted so far. I doubt I'll be attending any future shows by foreign artists. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't have attended the Deva show if I hadn't received complimentary VIP tickets. I'm glad I didn't spend money for what I saw last night.

I would really like to see IR do a concert anywhere or even in Toronto. Lots of people would go to that concert. For the Deva Concert there was many empty seats. The higher level was completely empty. Even the Hariharan Concert had so many people.

actually i introduced a fine thread sometime in the recent past in this forum calling for the ban of Deva from FM, all his songs and erasing of any memory related to his compositions from the minds of the people of south India. Unfortunately, that page did not find a spot in the vast concocted fabric of discussion threads! if that thread has been seen by one and all i'm sure that Canada incident could've been avoided. but, now i plead to one and all, please do something about Deva. If he composed any song worthwhile of one hearing, try to call that as a freak incident and move on with life.
;--) ;--)
i'm sure the security there at canada must have gone bersek
