sapthaswarangal - What a farce!

There have been several doubts about SSL in this forum but no matter what, the recent episodes were a big joke to say the least. I am not sure whether this was SSL finals or just a Bangalore episode or just Blr finals..but surely AV Ramanan could have gone for some better judge than the utterly useless Vasundhara Das, who right thru the entire 3 weeks, had absolutely no idea where she was, what she was doing and what she was supposed to do! To her great credit, happily managed 3 words of tamil in the final week!!

Similar progs on other channels have been calling up really solid playbacks of yesteryear, why cant SSL do that? Some weeks before they called up the chaps who 'acted' in BOYS as judges!! Have they stopped inviting classical artists like they used to do?

Feel sorry for the candidates who were taken for a ride by a judge playing Blindman's Bluff. In the end Vasundhara justified her choice of winners by saying they were 'more confident while singing'. Needless to say, AVR asked her to sing Ye*2 ennachu and other junks and the tamasha was complete.

  I mean to say that SSL has already had all these playback singers of yesteryear. There is nothing wrong in calling them back for a second time, may be AVR doesn't want that. This is one of the reasons why such a program is poular with the viewers for a limted time. I mean, initially people at home used to go crazy about Raagam Sangeetham. The focus shifted to Paatuku Paattu(Sun TV), Sapthaswarangal (Sun TV), Raja Geetham (Raj TV), xxx(Vijay TV, forgot the name!) and presently they are sticking with Ragamaalika(Jaya TV). After a few months, the quality goes down and the rounds get monotonous. I don't know why there is no attempt made to give a new look to these programs, it just doesn't make sense to have the same old stuff again and again. People lack creativity and this irritates me!
  
  Atleast, the authorities in Vijay TV have stopped the programme which they used to air. I would rather prefer this happening! Same old stuff makes me sick! (except in one case, which I do not want to mention here and deviate!)

  No doubt that SSL's judges are playing a circus for the past few weeks. Those "Boys" again were mockery. Every participant in that program had better musical juice in them than the judges. It is high time! AVR shouldnt take us for granted.

  I totally agree with * (why can't u put a name?),it was mockery of sorts with Vasundhara judging,that too in the finals,SSL is losing its status by calling BOYS as their judges,Hope they correct this in coming episodes..

  C~P ... that prog. in Vijay TV was called "aborva Ragangal" (James Vasanthan and Vijay Adiraj later were the anchors)
  
  The reason, I guess, for calling indha maari judges ellam is the quality of participants. It has drastically gone down from where it started and this is the case with all such programmes. Recent episodes la ellam no participant, I think is appdiye exceptionally good.
  Idhellaam oda kodumai is the classical round in Sapthaswarangal where participants got to do an alaapanai in a ragam of their choice. Maha kodumaiyaa irukkum!!!! I donno why they have such rounds at all!
  
  C~P..i don't think monotony is a major reason. Zee TV la "Sa-Re-Ga-Ma", a similar programme, I heard lost a major chunk of viewership only due to a change in the host of the show nu I read somewhere. Sonu Nigam used to anchor, after him Ustad. Amjad Ali Khan's sons and now Shaan hosts the show. Inspite of these changes, I feel they have managed to maintain the quality of the show. I ve never seen "kathukutti" singers ever judging the performance, and singers also are reasonably good.

  Sonu Nigam was terrific.He was young and energetic,could sing well,knew the musical nuances due to his good formal training,bring together both audience and the participants thru optimal conversation,a good homework on the acheivement of judges,ability to interrupt the judges when they digress and above all unassuming.Save for the jazzy Bharjatiya .....er.. bhaaraathiya dresses he maintained a decent profile.Shaan has miles to go.
  
  AVR has none of these.Choice of judges ,participants and the process have always bordered on confusion and crudity.The intrinsic capabilities of the singers have never once been identified.Often I hear that the true SaptaswarangaL is held daily only at Subbaraya Nagar.
  
  I am sure none of the HF MDs ever look at the show.See their singers' choice.

  I wasn't blaming the host of the show. Didn't mean to say he was getting boring. I was referring to the program setup. I wanted some new creative rounds in the programme, that's all. Instead of thinking on the lines of Devaaram and Thiruvaasagam, something else could have been though of.
  
  Yes, you are correct about the quality of singing. It does deteriorate and detiriorates at a uniform rate in all the programmes!

  what a fabulous program completely excellent presentation enthusiastic participants honourable judges wonderful music team and a fantastic host... what a pity it's only a twenty minute program... thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the program, i look forward to every sunday for the same.   It is worth mentioning here some of the smilar programmes coming in malayalam channels. They are simply fabulous. one of the old shows used tobe compered by none other than Srikumar himself ! Even the other shows which are being aired boast of judges and participants whose knowledge and ability to perform are unquestionably of high standards. Jaya TV show ragamalika ? seems to be good till now. great people like TN.Seshagopalan, MSV have graced it. It is a chilling experience for the naive participants. Their questions and the quality of the participants are impressive.
