  Hi,
  I think MD's who create music are born! And MD's who make music are made!
  I think there is only 1 person in the former, ie, Maestro Dr.Ilaiyaraaja, which has been proved by His composing speed and consistency! Even Non-IR fans should agree that putting the same amount of hard work as IR, even then many have not stood the test of time!
  The latter list is heavy, that too, in Tamil! Should I say that even India's most paid No.1 composer falls in this category? I think it goes without saying!

  A musician is mostly born i.e. the virtue 'liking music' is a inborn quality of a person. A person may hail from a musical family but having a staunch avertion towards it and a person from a musically illiterate family will have a heavy liking to music. So being/becoming a musician has a great share from one's birth. But becoming a MD it is a cultivated quality. It is next step to 'being a musician'.
  
  Take any MD be it MSV, IR, ARR, Deva, SAR, music interest would be their in-born quality. But to become a MD one has to work a lot. So MDs are made.
  
  Afterall becoming a MD is a kind of Success. As the famous saying goes this success is also 99% perspiration.

  Do u think u can make any vaarisu a MD - Then why did not MSV's sons Gopi and Murali didn't come to this field? I feel the interest and stuff is more important!
  I bet YSR and KR will prove themselves worth as MD's! So, please encourage good music! But u can see Srikanth Deva waning out soon!

  MDs are made. Tastes are acquired - but should be born with something to start with...So all MDs have been born with some music in their blood.
  Why are some better than the other? Music is an art form and simply not some combinatinatorial gimmick with notes. There should be some element of creativity in the musician and it need not be "musical" creativity...Needs high sense of taste (which is personal of course)...but good taste...
  MDs now show talent...but little creativity.

  it's really difficult to say. in some cases, we can clearly see the genetic connection, eg. ustad amjad ali khan, the sarod maestro. his family has been playing the sarod for 14 generations, in fact it was his ancestor who invented the instrument. now his sons have reached the concert-playing stage, but whether they will scale the same peaks as their father remains to be seen.
  in other cases, genetics doesn't seem to play any role. there are too many instances for me to elaborate.
