Hello, yesterday, in Zee Cinama, I saw the film Chachi 420, the Hindi remake of Kamal Hassan's Tamil hit, Avvai Shanmukhi. The Hindi film was directed by Kamal Hassan and had music by Vishal Bharadwaj. But the BGM was by titled as DEVA. Any idea how many films Deva had given BGM apart from film music.
TFM lovers, please comment. Only in Hindi films we have a seperate music composers for films and for BGM. In South India, the music director is also given the task of composing BGM also. Why is that? I am not saying that is wrong, but my question is why is there a difference in North and South like this?
In the Vassant CTS, film, Yai! Nee Romba Azhaga Irukkey, 5 music composers were allocated a song each, but the BGM was by Deva's brothers, Sabesh-Murali.

En swasak kaatre

It is not uncommon in the South too.
Aalavandhan had BGM by the late Mahesh and songs by Shankar Ehsaan Loy.
And yes, I remember a couple of ARR's movies had Deva for the BGM score.

It was actually the BGM score composed by A R Rahman re-recorded by Sabesh-Murali (Deva's brothers). I heard this say from Sabesh himself long time in Yugi Sethu's programme.
Sabesh-Murali is entrusted with the re-recording of ARR's films with unpopular directors, like En Swasakatre, Star, Jodi etc.. had re-recording by Sabesh-Murali. This was done by ARR since he is very busy.
But for Shankar, Mani Rathnam films all recordings and re-recording is done by ARR himself.
At this rate, I think Sabesh-Murali, will loose their identity (as if they have) and will be popular for re-recordings alone.

Deva is a music director who is very capable of melodies also, but God knows why he likes Ganna songs so much, which after hearing one feels like jumping before a local train.
Here is a collection of Deva's Melodies:
1) Rathiriyil Vennilavae-Appu
2) Ninaithal-Appu
3) Nalam nalamariya aaval-Kadhal Kottai
4) Kanavae Kalayaadae-Kannedhirae Thondrinal
5) July Malargalae-Bhagavathy
6) Yaar sollvathoa-Kushi
7) Manam virumbuthey-Nerukku Ner
8) Engengae engengae engae-Nerukku Ner
9) Aval Varuvala-Nerukku Ner
10)Meenamma-Aasai
11)Ghatotkacha-Pammal K Sambandam
12)Sakalakala Valavanae-Pammal K Sambandam
13)Un peyar solla aasaidhaan-Minsara Kanna
Thats all I could call a Real Music of Deva. Any more songs please.

One more re-recording is very popular in hindi movies for BGM, using library scores or using freely available music pieces.
