I was hearing to "Vilakku Vaipom...Vilakku Vaippom" (Aatma) and happened to notice a similar orchestration in few other songs having a similar situations..some to name are "malaikoil vaasalile" (veera) and "Aasaia Kaatrile Thoothu Vittom (Jhonny). I am sure many might have had this in their minds. To our surprise, the tunes appear rather different from one to other..One othe example is, Othadi...Othadi (donno) is similar to Annathe Aaduraar othiko..Othiko (AS)..Occasionally, I hear an "identical orchestration for identical situation (IOIS) songs, which I can not bring it out suddenly..I am sure other fans wud have paid more attention to this..Let me learn from what others observe and think about it...

the interludes of `poongAtRu thirumbumA' & `nAnAga nAnillai thAyE' have similar `feel' (I cannot say whether they orchestration is`identical' or `note-for-note')

it is better to make one's own copies than to make copies of other's copies.
imho, when situations are same, the songs sound similar.

I think a gross background of movie knowledge is mandatory for this kinda discussion. For example, when son had to think about mother's sacrification of her own life in bringing him up, songs such as "amma enazhikkatha" (mannan), "amma, amma enthan aaruyire" (uzhaippali) flashes in readily. The usage of array of violins and other right choice instruments bring in the mood of what we have to feel. A person, who hasn't even tasted about this scenario, like many viewers sit infront of the wide screen, get a feel of it..Only an extraordinary mind such as Raja's can do this without much of experiments...Many other situation songs like funeral, marraige, love, sad solos..etc..etc do have similar giant touches of Raja in them...I am sure there are several well informed people in this forum, who can enlighten this thread by contributing their intelligent observations and thoughts here....

Fliflo,
A very good thread indeed. I certainly enjoyed reading your posting. Well I would like to mention one more piece of situation where Maestro scores over all. That is scoring music for situations involving a kid(like Kutti in the film Kutti) or an innocent man(like Nasser in avatharam) so on. He really comes with a great THULAL feeling in the music for certain scenes. Those who have seen Kutti would appreciate the "Poo arumbuthu" song...Enna thullal....antha innoncent manasin thullal antha music il irunthathu. Maestro certainly scores over everyone. He uses similar kind of score to express this innocence.
As he had said aptly in one of his "Raaja vin Paarvai" article (titled "Naan ninaipathum, nee nianipathum) about composing the music for a particular scene, read it here.
