Folks, any input here on the possibilities that IR and KR have the interest to develop musical composition patterns that will be more relevant to the mood and phenomenal advancements of the Nanotechnology and Space Age Sounds of the 22nd Century? It is my wishful thinking. Hey, what is that our Isaignani not explored musically of the great mystic sounds and moods of Indian folk, spiritual and rustic life on this earthy.
My question is, would the Maestro transcend to thoe New Age sounds of Space, of loneliness, of virtual isolation, virtual nostalgia, of virtual dimensions, virtual representations, virtual sentiments, virtually everything of a unimaginable virtue. I am thinking of the shades of neo-modern translucence you feel when reading Aynn Rand's Fountainhead or hearing the sounds of something really metaphysical.
What do you guys think? This is an abstract topic, as abstract as you understand the resilience and malleability of the greatest of great Geniuses, Shri Illaiyaraja.
Let us dive into the ultra surrealist world of space and higher self actualisated life styles.
My Final Thought: There can be only one Illaiyaraja, no gene or space technology can reproduce this creation to that level of perfection.

Fan: a very good topic. IR's forays into new age music is not much as of now. the first thing is the equipment. kitaro's digital studio costs a fortune.also, the synthesized new age music requires a totally different perception of "rasikkum thanmai" and the shades portrayed by that will be vastly different from the emotions sketched by the normal music. i think the time is quite premature for IR to do new age surrealism..
BTW, are u into post-modernism by any chance???

Are you referring to music similar to background scores from films like Blade Runner ?

shankar,
unnmai is always bitter, try to digest
it , in 80's arr was not in the picture that's
why ir was ruling tfm, now with so many new
comers ir is lacking behind
what's important is winning amidst stiff competition (arr),and not being a solo winner with no participants(you very well know whom i am refering to)
.

Well,an ardent...
why don't u see it this way. In 1980s when IR was at his peak, none of the MDs were preferred as IR was the KING.
He was dormant for few years (which he himself told after the release of veera -if u r not IRs filmography, he scored for 56movies in 1992 and only 20 odd movies in '93) as he was concentrating on improving his symphony (hope u know symphony evolves )
WC gurus , is that what u call it???
All these guys came into picture when he was dormant and now he's back. Now the concept of no-1 doesn't exist at all.
If u see the max no of HIT movies per year Deva leads!!
max no of movies ,again deva leads!!!!
Pity,U can't have originality as a platform to compare the MDs as none other than raja and balabarathi are original.
On what basis r u calling ARR a winner, an no-so-easy-to-find copier (multiple-inheritance), in which poor deva and Sirpi stand second and third.
Again u r proving that u know NOTHING about music in 80s by saying IR was the solo player!!!
FYI, there were MDs called SG, Chandrabose, Manoj-gyan,TR (of kadavuL vAzhum koyililE and NOT of dai dai digiree dOi TR)and ravindran (MSV too) and mind u ,all those guys were original though there r some copied songs by them too.
So get ur facts straight and start arguing .

mr.ir fanatic
arr is the only MD who is not influenced by ir's
music and is the trend-setter to hi-tech music, you CANNOT deny this fact .he is the unproclaimed king of tfm ,great directors(m.ratnam,b.raja.b.chander
&so on ),great banners have opted for arr.
that conspicously shows ir is unfit for hi-fi music which is today's trend .

A good news to all of you. IsaiGnani Raghadevan Maestro Dr. Ilyaraja is coming out with an album titled Jaya Jaya Jaya hey which tends to bring forth the music that existed amongst various civilizations. I read that he is using rare instruments like kantalae ( A old finnish instrument).

shankar(ir fan),
b.raja& k.b sought other mds bcoz arr is generally slow in completing his assignments(which is known nation-wide) which did'nt suit their releasing dates(officially stated by them).
so FY kind info they did'nt opt out for the reason you have in mind .titbit:BR's Taj Mahal has music scored by none other than arr.

Taj Mahal = Doomed from the beginning. BTW, did you notice this junior .... after these folks, Balachander, BR, Manirathnam etc. switched over from Raja to Rahman, their azhivukalam started and their place in the cine industry itself is under jeopardy now. Also read tamilcinema.com about the "slowness" of ARR causing delays in numerous movies ...

There is no point arguing with him.Leave it and let's get back to this topic.
BTW, junior, Tajmahal is history now.

bb and Raja: we are on the same wavelength. Post modernism and Bladerunner
are precisely two ways of summing the scenario for Raja. I don't want IR to
waste his time in stupid Indian films anymore. He should now experiment on a
bigger scale (like with the Finnish musician on KATELE musical instrument) and
be available for international film productions like what Philip Glass, Ravi
Shankar have done. Only by breaking out of his existing composition patterns
can we can have Raja's enjoyed by a bigger population. I am only wishing that
with the opening of his recording studio Raja will bewilder this world with
unheard of styles, musical themes, patterns and remastering of all his earlier
works. This should be a true Tamizhan's dream and hope we can do something to
motivate Raja.
(BTW, others please refrain from out of syn discussions in any thread. Just
stick to the topic and say something linear on that particular topic, please.)

fan, neenga topicai Arambichuttu pOyitteenga. inge kanda kanda comments ellAm vandhu, oruthar orutharai thurathi pidichu(!!)..bayangara kaLEbaram thaan.
what u say is definitely true, but the following things will be the deterrents:
1. loss of a huge fan following.not many will appreciate such an attempt by IR.
2.a powerful backing by some good international label.
3. IR's inclination to do it.
4. a limited sense of achievement - the returns will not be visible immediately, like the sale of cassettes in t.nadu..
5. composing such a thing will go well only with a good movie , like blade runner referred by raja. blade runner itself was a big big leap for vangelis, who composed the score. he had earlier composed for chariots of fire, and became quite famous. hence, that motivation needs to be there for such an album to fit in. no one has tried out something of that level in india. the closest that IR has come to is the vegam vegam song in anjali.
i would feel that IR is much more suited for soothing new age music, and would do much well if he had tried out like L.Subramaniam.
