Yes, I do like her voice. But not many of the newtfmpage surfers seem to appreciate that. Her voice has been discussed many times in so many other threads though. But mostly in a derisive manner. People just do not have an open heart to appreciate talent.
She had a real cute voice with a very good range. But she lacked clarity in pronunciation which she made up by the smoothness of her voice.
Eg: "Mayile Mayile". This song was more popular because of her inspite of SPB's superb rendition. Another song that comes to mind is "Geetha Sangeetha".
IR could have used her in better ways by honing her skills. But God knows why he clung to Janaki for the most part.
Around late 70's and early 80's the only new comer who could sing at a highly professional level was Jency. Shailaja, Uma Ramanan and the like were no where close to her.
But she said in an interview that she quit singing in tamil films early on because she got a govt. job in Kerala. I think she made a wise decision. How could she have survived if IR didn't give her enough chances?
If we look back, I think most of her songs were super hits excepting the one(s) from the film Metti which was an utter flop movie, though!
