we really have to be fair with kamal...he s the only one who does not mix commercial stuff with quality...if he wants he can fix ARR as hey-rams musician...he can make a good money...but he knows who suits for his movie..cngrate kamal..ir is the best choice for the re-recording of hey-ram..
bharathiraja needs to follow kamals step...u know by having ARR as tajmahal mmusician ,,,he can makes a good bucks,,but talkin bout quality its not goin to be a masterpiece as mudhal mariyathai...in fact he let sabeshan to do the bgm for tajmahal....ha..ha..ha...

SRIKANTHG
THERE IS NOTHING FUNNY ABOUT IT, I ADMIRE PBS VOICE VERY MUCH. JUST GIVE A LISTEN TO KALANGALLIL AVAL VASANTHAM AND INDHA MANDRATHIL ODI VARUM KIND OF SONG. TODAYS HARIRHARANS AND UNNIKRISHNANS ARE NO WHERE NEAR. IN FACT EVEN IN THE LATER PART OF THE CARREER PBS HAS SUNG A GREAT NILAI MARUM ULAGIL SONG. WAIT AND WATCH OUT FOR IR'S HEY RAM, SURE HE IS GOING TO REPLACE ALL THE NEW SINGERS.

Sorry for posting this in the 'New' ir albums thread. I don't listen to IR music at all (can't even remember what is the last IR movie songs I heard). After a long time I listened to 'veera thaalaattu'. Wonderful folk songs. Especially 'kadhai pOla thOnum idhu kadhaiyum illai' is an excellent song. I don't know why IR is still singing most of his songs. IR voice-layE ivvaLavu nallaa irundhaa vEra yaaraavadhu voice-la (Hariharan or someother new artist) kaNdippaa hit aagi irukkum !

Did anybody notice ARR's use of hollywoodian style of chrous BGM in Mudhalvan? To be more precise, listen to The Omen or First Knight by Jerry Goldsmith.
Also, has anybody noticed how maestro John Williams' score towards the end celebration in Phantom Menace resembles that of our maestro's many chorous works?
The above is just to quote but one.
IR is truly a genius indeed. Amen.

Ambleen,
ARR has been "inspired" by John William's score for the movie "Temple of Doom" (IJ series). The piece called "temple of doom" was his inspiration for the choral chanting in Indian. Phantom menace 's score has been slightly altered for mudhalvan.

In phantom menace "duel of fates" & "Qui-gon's noble end" have this choral chanting in Sanskrit (u can't understand even a single word :-( ).
U can see them in mudhalvan too :)

Actually the whole thing is a trademark from Jerry Goldsmith's "The Omen" in 1976. It was performed with the National Philharmonic Of London & a thunderous choir. He received an Oscar for this & till now many hollywood directors & composers do imitate it. This actually inspired Steven Spielberg for his films "Temple Of Doom" scored by John Williams & "Young Sherlock Holmes" scored by Bruce Broughton.
Goldsmith has also used great choral works in "Poltergeist II" & in "First Knight" couple of years ago.
Just like how we respect IR & put him above anyone else in India, the same can be said for Goldsmith in Hollywood.

Ambleen, you are right about Phantom Menace. In fact John Williams, for the first time in Hollywood film, I think, was speaking in a idiom really a trademark of IR. Definitely, the happy ending music is very IR and very south Indian!
IR has already reached Hollywood, I must say

Muralidharan,
It's TRUE....Kamal himself said that....
Ambleen,
Raja has once said, he learnt the art of scoring BGM from Jerry Goldsmith (what he means here is - the tempo is maintained thro'out the movie and that's what he learnt from JG).
If u see the celebration piece of the Return of the Jedi, it has a lots of Raja touch in it.

Guys,
Interesting to read.
Hindu dated (11/12/1999) carries on article on taj mahal and this is what BR has to say about IR:
"Talking about the music directors he has worked with, Bharatiraja says with feeling, ``Ilaiyaraja is a genius... a creator in the truest sense.'' He then worked with a few others and could not find complete satisfaction till he began working with A. R. Rahman. ``After Ilaiyaraja I am comfortable only with Rahman,'' he states.
One has to move with the times and make adjustments instead of thinking about the past always, is the philosophical strain he adopts. There was a time when Ilaiyaraja's re-recording for Bharatiraja's films was a sensation, an added bonanza for filmgoers. And thinking back Bharatiraja becomes nostalgic. ``All the same one should learn to be flexible... I am now...'' he says. "
Is the movie realeased for deepavali? Any related news?

I dont understand what BR tries to convey by saying this:

am now...'' he says. "

IR's new album "Sethu" has been released.I just had a first hearing.Nothing sensational.A couple of OK songs.
But one suprising aspect on the audio tape was that, it contained the following.
"Digitally recorded at A.R.Rehman's Panchathan Inn".Am not sure wether it was an abberation on the cassette cover but just thought will pass it on to you guys.
Will post a detailed review of sethu's songs
t'morrow.Am still in India and hope to get back to US next week.
PS:IR has completed 4 songs in Hey!ram and has the complete re-recording to be done.Currently TIME re-recording is under progress.
