its not because of shankar etc . its because of kamal and his cutouts that has catched the public eye and they have responded by buying the cassettes.

Common guys, if it were to be ARR , you guys say sales were because of ARR. Now because somebody else, credit goes to kamal. Amazing...

mr. ncr, please dont imagine things. its nothing but because of kamal. shankar etc are not even known much and as such giving credit to them is height of stupidty and fooling ourselves. its kamals posters that have been converted to cassette sales

in eight hours how people cam to know about the quality of the songs?
was it aired on TV?
looks like a desparate hype to me.

// "It's amazingly difficult for any composer to make a huge impression beyond the two giants, Ilaiyaraja and A.R Rahman," Haasan said. "But Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have done it." There's already a flurry of interest in the composing threesome in Tamil Nadu's film circles. //
this is what written in the same article and are words of Haasan.
Give atleast some credit to those poor guys. they are already known with " Mission Kashmir " and "Dil Chahta Hai,". Definetely who heard them will know them. The sales are in cities who hear to Hindi songs too. Definetely these three are genuine composers unlike many other composers who claim to be.

Also selling 200K casettes is no big deal now a days. Manisharma could do it in Telugu for a Chiranjivi movie hours within 6 hours of release of the casettes.

I dont think this # is a big thing. every actor/director/promo person will say the same thing. I remember pavitran saying the same thing about "Indu" doesnt mean anything.
The cumulative sales evaluated after 1 month of the movie release is a fair judgement.
and 2 lac is not a huge #. It should sell as much in madras and its vicinities.

ncr, where credit is due, it should be given
whoever he might be. but in this case, it is clearly kamal hassan and his postures.
also the media hype before the release. mission kashmir etc is only known to those who can browse internet but definetly not to the poor masses who make or break a film

Yeah not HYPE as you Guys SAy, definetely not HYPE, IT is because of GOOD MARKETING. Yes, Marketing is Everything and EVERYTHING is marketing. The movie was marketed well, it sold for a record amount in TF history (36 crores) and hence the Songs were sold.
But anyway the mUSic is really good.
LAST WEEK SHANKAR MAHADEVAN CAME TO COIMBATORE FOR A FUNCTION CALLED AS DUMMRA DUMM. HE SAID US TO GIVE A BIG HAND TO ARR, CAUSE IF NOT FOR HIM THEY WOULDNT BE HERE AND WOULDNT BE WHAT THEY ARE NOW.

This was an interview with Manisharma in telugu. It says that the audio casettes of Chiranjivee starrer "Annayya" movie, sold 2 lakhs with 6 hours of release. This was released from Mahiti owned by Manisharma himslef.
One more earlier movie "bavagaru Bagunnara" , 3 lakhs of casettes were sold within hours of release of movie.

Hi, Guys:
If 2lakhs is not a hugh number, why should the Times of India publish as a news? In Andra selling 3 lakhs in a few hours time may not be new but in TN it is new and that is why it is THE NEWS. If 2 lakhs can be sold in Madras and the vicinity why any other audio tapes were not sold this fast? Please try to appreciate others.

every body have forgotten that even MINNALE (harris jayaraj)had broken the record of selling 2 lakhs cassette by 1 day.that too with out any big hero or director.its all because of the tv that played the o mama song.
soon after the release because of the genuinety and master work it has crossed the 6 lakhs mark and created history in audio market.

i just listened to all the songs of this film. please do not call it songs. it is much much more than that. these types of prose forms can only be found in tfm. how to make songs look in prose form seems to be the order of the day and kamal has cemented it

for those who are complaining please remember
for a pyscho thriller like Alavandan there is little scope for music in the form of songs so this itself is too much.Shanar combo has done a great job in their latest super hit 'Dil Chahta Hai' so listen to it before passing any judgements abt this trios musical abilities

I remain sceptical about "200,000" cassettes being sold out in "8 hours". How do you prove this?
Exaggeration in public media is a basic need for marketing success & great marketing 'giants' only know this too well! I won't be surprised if this 'Hype' is followed by a 'genuine record-sales' of the cassette.
Time will reveal the truth!!

My first impressions (after about 1 1/2 listening)
... a commercial album.... definetly not a
classic.. but decently entertaining songs... with
some attempts to sound different..
And after second and third hearing... really
starting to like it..
Nice (tamil) debut...
Sounds like worth buying...

Shankar Ehsaan Loy seems to be following Kamal Hassan's inspiration syndrome (after scores of his inspired but very well indianised movies).
Listen to the 'kadavul paathi' track from Aalavanthaan (Try raaga.com under the tamil section - listen to the part after Kamal's ramblings and where the music actually starts).
Then listen to Jerry Goldsmith's score for the 1986 Elizabeth Shue starrer 'Link' directed by Richard Franklin!
http://home.t-online.de/home/tom-sami/link.ram
(Again, listen to the part where the music actually starts after the initial rather eerie rhytms and sounds).
Genuinely inspired!
I found the original info in TFM from a posting by a person named ambleen, who has in the past dug such really vague inspiration stuff, much to my excitement!
Another inspiration on the same 2 movies. Link is about an eccentric primatologist experimenting with chimpanzees in a remote English coastal house. One of the chimps, Link initially is very friendly but becomes very aggressive and literally has Shue in house arrest, the reason for which is explained in the end.
Does Abhay get to keep Raveena under house arrest kinda situation? If we go by the promos, I suppose so! (based on a shot where Abhay takes a knife-throw at Raveena which is aimed to stop her from getting out of the room!).
So Kamal chose to play the human version of a chimp this time! Lets wait for the movie and watch! A psychotic chimp becomes a psychotic Kamal!
(Thanks to Ambleen who first exposed the Jerry Goldsmith 'Link'!)

aalavandan album has taken quiet a beating (if we go through the marks in tfm).this is mainly becoause every song looks like a prose reading and kamal has not sung well as usual.(kamal is a very great actor. that is different). the music is very much below average.

Buying this album is a criminal wastage. The reasons
1.Awful rendition of Kamal, soso by Shankar
2.Over hyping of a mediocre score. This will not sustain further as already it is on the downslide.
Better listen to the songs in mp3. Save ur valuable money.

I have my opinion that Aalavandaan is not that bad at all. Infact I like, Africa Kaatupuli and siri siri are good. I wouldn't recommend it as being the best of the time, but surely one that we can hear, i.e mediocre to TFM standards.
