I am G.Suresh for those of you who don't know me, this is my second posting in this forum , it is unfortunate that my earlier one 'Has Arr not copied Narumugaiyae' has to be deleted due to some controversies.
Coming to this latest one , We have lot of singers who resembles SPB in singing, closest being Mano, Arun Mozhi and on one song by Ramesh "Rahde en Radhe.." in Japanil Kalyana Raman, Can we identify here who comes next to SPB in terms of Soft voice and versatality. My choice is Arunmozhi , Awaiting response

There some idiots who thinks like Raguvaran (@ 64.124.150.135) that I am the only one creating threads about Dr.SPB, perhaps he ought to seek some eye examination, or even a vet optician can check these idiots eye sight, or perhaps they are just jealous, that they are not worth to open thread about their self.
The following threads are open by other SPB fans

Excellent, but if just ignore the idiot at (@ 64.124.150.134) , he is so incompetence in arguing about anything, so he post garbage with no sense, he does not know anything about music, he does not know the true meanings of 1-37 keys in music, he does not know what is shruthi, layam, pallavi, saranam, shanghati, raagam, thaalam, kattai's (1-8), he is a total waste, with no self confidence in his views, he sufferes from inferiority complexity, humans with such menatl disorders do silly things like that, he can not accept the fact SPB is the greatest, perhaps he is jealous of SPB for some reason, just pardon this idiot, do not bother replying to him, because if you do, he will use CTRL+C for copying & CTRL+V for pasting again!

Guys enough is enough, I am Srilankan Tamil, I have learnt Carnatic Music in jaffna, we use the term kattai's in the school, if this not known by the indian tamils, then do not take the mick, Like I said I do not know what the indian tamils call kattais as, you guys are pathetic, every Arab Muslims stick for them selfs, all round world muslims fight togethher, but it is rather sad to see one tamilians (Like the you guys) take the p*ss out the other tamilians like me, srilankan tamil, which is rather sad, I wish I was a muslim, at least they do not take the p*ss out of their brothers!!!
I am not going to take part in this forum again (unless you guys change), all of you guys are intimidating & insulting SPB, there are some decent guys who post here, pls do not degrade them as well.

guys, this thread is getting out of control, every one is arguing over silly things!
SPB is the greatest ever, but there are other greats like M.rafi,KK,KJY,PBS,SJ,PS,TMS, who should be compared with SPB in order to prove why & how SPB is the greatest ever, for this proof & facts must be analysed, rather than bland statements like, KJY is better, because he is a carnatic boffin, M.rafi is better because he can sing at higest pitches!!,This is not enough!!!
Both Dr.SPB & DR.KJY have crossed 40,000 songs, while SPB's majority comes from film songs,& KJY's majority comes from pure carnatic, classical & his own albums.
M.rafi & lata had sung lot less than SPB &KJY, there for SPB has more skills than m.rafi, plus SPB has been singing for 35years, M.rafi did not, perhaps he sang for a maximum of 23 years, SPB's favorite singer is M.rafi, while M.rafi's favourite is SPB, atleast they have great respect for each others, unlike some visitors in this forum.
SPB & KJY are the only singer to last 35 years along with Lata Mangeshkar, perhaps Asha bosle.
in the early seventies & late sixties KJY lacked bass, while SPB had & has a heavy bass, KJY was & is often nasal at higher ptches, but SPB never ever sounded nasal, I used to wonder whether he ever suffered from cold!!.
turning point in SPB's era was his classical shankaraparanam, which got him his first national award, till that date (1979), KJY did not get any national awards, but later he got more national awards, Shankaraparanam was very difficult render for non carnatic singer like SPB, but he proved us wrong, even without no knowledge on Carntic music, ghazzals, that it is possible by him, KJY & Bala murali Krishna would have shankaraparanam, no problems, but KJY's voice, which was slightly nasal at that time (still is) would not have suited the character in shanaraparanam, KJY would have lacked SPB' bass had he sung Shankaraparanam. He can not modulate nor express feelings like the crying bit in "shankaraaaaaa", is impossible by KJY, take KJY's shinthu bhravi, KJY sang the entire song with no modulation, no expression, same boring style, but his voice suited Sivakumar.
I have heard many M.rafi's songs, but can not spell correctly as I am not Hindi person, but once I do, I will compare his songs with SPB.
so topic concludes by saying "SPB is the greatest ever", but not degrading another singers, every has thier talents, but SPB is thier god father!

Mudhalvan:
You said "...sankaraparanam which got him his first national award, till that date (1979) KJY did not get any national awards..."
To start with, Sankaraabaranam award was not for or in 1979.
KJY won national awards in 1973 (for the 1972 film "ACHCHANUM BAAPPAYUM"), in 1974 (for "GAAYATHRI") and in 1976 (for "CHICHOR").
I wonder where you get your information from!!!

Raguvaran (@ 64.124.150.135) ;
You are right about those awards for KJY, KJY started his career in 1961, right, while SPb started his career in 1966, I presume SPB's first song is telugu, but what is the name of the song?, and I also presume KJY's first song is a malayalam song, right??.
Can some body tell me how many national awards SPB & KJY have to gether, it is mazing that KJY has been singing for 40 years & SPB has been singing for 35 years, and they both crossed the 40,000 songs record, which till date no other singer has crossed, including M.rafi, Lata & Kishor Kumar.
One draw back of KJY, he is not as versatile as SPB, he is limited to sad songs, devotional & carnatic, but SPB is all rounder, in Cinema, a singer needs to as versatile as possible to modulate , express feelings, this is where SPB has an edge over KJY, M.rafi,KK, etc.
When SPB sings, he gives you picture of the actor's emotions & situation of the songs, TMS was also good at this, but he never had an amazing voice as SPB,nor was he as good as SPB in carnatic songs, although TMS was good at devotional. TMS was good as SPB in higer notes, but not in lower notes, as TMS lacked the bass of SPB.
In order for a singer to be the greatest, a singer must have had exposure to all types of songs, there is no one else who had done this apart from SPB, that's what & his divinest voice make him the greatest ever!
