phenomenal quality of IR music



so far we have discussed all the aspects of IR music.it is another
such move to discuss about a distinctive aspect IR's music.whenever i
listened some songs of IR an esoteric feeling surrounding me.an
unidentifiable feeling,a combination of sad,happy,mournful etc (inam puriuatha
oru sogam) keep you out of this world for that time.here i listed SOME
of (not all) such songs,

  Many times when I lister IR music I could gues easily what kind of movie it would be, what will be the situation for the song. And I can assure that it is a title song or climax song etc..

  I think the word you are looking for is - melancholy. Yes, it is one of the characteristic features of IR's songs.

  I feel in recent past, his songs for Ramarajan movies were extraordinary. Some examples :
  
  The prelude for the song "Velli kolusumani" (u shud listen again to feel it!)
  
  The beautiful drag by Chithra in the song "Indha maan undhan sondha maan" (Karakatakaran) while singing "Ennai thaan....unnai enni thaan..." and at this point one should listen to the soft violin score in the background... just amazing (u shud hear it thru' earphones). I tend to get goosepimples when I think how the great IR could think of such combinations.
  
  Kaalam ilaveni kaalam (from Vidinjaa kalyaanam) but the song never became a hit.
  
  The signature tune for the film "Gunaa" - My God! it takes u to a different world altogether.
  
  His numerous compositions with special reference to some points in the song like the song "Kaaviriye, kavikuyile" (from 'Adutha Vaarisu'), the tune for the intermediate lines "Unakkumm enakkum porutham...valara valaru suhamae..." (sorry if the words are wrong).
  
  Readers, please listen to these one more time to get the feeling of what I mean!

  Kaalai nerap poonguyil - Amman koyil kizhakkaaley
  Kunguma manjalukku - Engha mudhalaali
  Thaayundu thandhaiundu petror illai - Koyil kaalai
  
  This list is endless ... All his mayamalavagowlai based duets can join this category (Kaadhal kavidhaigal, Poongadhavey - 2nd interlude many many more)

  Kalukuley vantha eeram is sirpikul muthu
  and marakatha valiku manakolam is by ir.. may be the movie might be different.. and some guys claimed nan padum padal music is done by shankar ganesh.. no.. Nan padum padal also by ir.

  I am not aware of any song "Kalukkulley vantha eeram" in Sippikkul Muthu. I know of only "kallukulley vantha eeram enna.." from Manithanil Marupakkam. Pardon my ignorance..
  
  But I can bet "marakatha vallikku" is not by IR, its by Shankar Ganesh..but the film name is "Anbulla Appa" . Naan Paadum Paadal is definitely by IR..no doubt on that..

  btw...do you have any pointer to show that
  there is a song "Kallukkulley.." in
