  half u tamil speaking ppl in chennai can't even read tamil so why talk about north indians? so many tamil singers actually read the tamil words in english and sing them..what's important is the outcome..not what language they read it in.

  Many tamil speaking people can't pronounce a few letters which is ok bcos they don't sing.
  Then tamil singers dont read tamil words in english... If you have seen them, then name a few or atleast one. Whether you know it or not, in english, you cannot differentiate between vallinam and mellinam (dont't ask me what's that)
  and so unless the MD points it out to the singer, the singer wouldn't know.. In ARR's case, the singer wouldn't know bcos ARR himself can't tell the difference. Tamil is a tongue twister. Its sounds irritating when singers sing in their 'nuni naakku'. This veena bharadwaj is one such singer. She may be a good singer in her own language but not acceptable in tamil.
  
  Let me tell you something. I am not a tamil fanatic. I like all indian languages. But I would always insist that only a tamilian (or anyone who can speak tamil fluently) with good pronounciation should sing tamil songs. I know many people would disagree with me on this point but I don't care. I like util narayan, sukvinder singh, sadana sargam etc etc in hindi songs but defintely not when they sing in tamil bcos they just don't get it and this has a bad influence on the younger generations. Bcos this has become a tread now.
  
  There are millions of tamil singers who are so talented but waiting for good opportunities.. so what's the need for a non-tamil to come and sing tamil songs??

  Before blaming ARR, didnt IR introduce Asha Bhosle into Tamil. If I am not mistaken, she sang 2 songs.
  So, where the heck is this blame of ARR starting it.

  I agree with you x. One of my friend who is handicapped has a good voice. He has even released some cassettes. He is still looking for a chance. Asha Bhosle did her very best in Engirundho Azahaithen song. Latha did her best in Araro Araro Nee Vero song. They are legendary singers. Using them in couple of songs out of his 4000 songs do not mean he is the one who started it. But using North Indian singers is really an insult to tamil singers. For example "kuluvalile" song is probably one of the worst sung song in my living memory. SPB could have done a better job.

  Inviting North Indian singers is far better than listening to IR irritating voice & music. In fact IR is the one who insults Tamil music fans. That's why person who scored 4000 songs is no where today. Even dogs barking got more rhythms than IR's crap music.

All the IR fans have appreciated IR more than gone after ARR. But in ARR fans case it is ulta. Only way they can make their presence felt is by pulling down IR.. IR is everest..   - I have heard SPB singing that song in telugu. And i tell you, Udit version was much better than the SPB's telugu version. I am not blaming SPB here.He si great. But there is an important thing that you guys forget. Each song requires a particular kind of singing style which makes it better. I am sure that Kulu Vaalile kind of peppy song was made better by Udit's accentuated tamil and everybody enjoyed it. ARR knew abt it and thats why made him sing. if IR made AB and LM sing a few songs, why did he do it then ? if he had thought abt tamil pronounciation, then he whould not have gone beyond TN borders. It is the singing style and the nature of the song which matters more nowadays.

  Sorry, Did I say anywhere that IR calling lata/asha to sing tamil songs was okay on IR's part? He also asked mithali to sing yamunai aatrile for thalabathi. Her tamil rendition was quite perfect. I am aware of that as well. Whether is IR or ARR my comments about singers who can't pronounce tamizh should not sing tamizh songs is unbiazed. I picked on ARR because he is predonminantly using non-tamilians to sing tamil songs, that's all.
  
  laila, good to know that you studied tamizh ilakkanam but sad to know that you are not bothered to see tamizh kolai in TFM.
