There was a time when i used to listen to IR songs, and liked without even knowing why i liked. Now when i listen to them again, i can sense why i like it. His ability to maintain the mood of the song throughout, brilliant musical arrangments and great fusion works.People can share such songs here.
Illam Nenje Vaa - Vanna Vanna Pookkal
There are few equals in this world to Yesudas's soothing voice. He opens the song with his great voice. Melodies don't mean nasal singing and not going high pitch. This is a perfect example. A flute opens up the proceedings. Then there is a series of western beats. Don't watch it in movie. Prasanth's awful dance will distract you. The same beat continues even after KJY starts singing. Then before first charanam just listen to his fusion music of classical, western and folk.. Masterpiece... Then he switches back to western beat and traditional music in the first charanam. Again his experiment continues between first and second charanam. The interlude is all about fusion.
Oh kalai kuyilgale - Unnai Vazthi Padukiren
Terrific song.. A very happy song start to finish with brilliant vocal by evergreen S.Janaki. Pretty much western music dominates after pallavi. Listen to the interlude after first stanza. There is this sound alternates between your left and right speaker. Great song...

Friends, whoever visits this thread, please try to get hold of the video cassette/VCD/DVD of a movie titled "Enga thambi" and listen to the title score - awesome!!
I can never understand how and why IR chooses to give such BGMs to absolutely banal films like ENGA THAMBI

Listen to the theme music of RajaParvai in the song of the day section. Masterful variations from the maestro.

Nowadays musical arrangments is just a piece of cake man. I got soundforge software. I used the song "Pattu Solli" from Azagi for testing.
Even with SantaCruz Audio Software, i can give auditorium effect, hall effect, bathroom effect (this effect is awesome) as if i listen to the song inside the bathroom, i tried slap back echo settings.. it sounded like as if a horse is running in the background, I tried short delay, medium delay , long delay settings. Each producing different effect. There is a nervous setting where the singer will sound like she sings with nervous disorder!! There are about 2 seperate 19 settings.. One can get 19*19 = 361 combinations. You can distribute to the channels unevenly. Using Soundforge software.. man you can thousands of things with your voice and music. Since i used this software for digital signal processing i know its potential. One can tweak voice, audio in so many different ways. All the special effects can be achieved so easily with modern day software tools. Sometimes i listen to a "folk song" with auditorium effect. It sounds funny.
Ok let us go back to the days where there were no software, internet..
Song: Naan Un Thayaga Movie: Ullasa Paravaigal
One of the underrated songs. Opening is enough...
That violin piece... need i to say.. Illayaraja's signature all over in that opening piece.

Song: Kannane Nee Vara
Movie: Thendrale Ennai Thodu
Excellent beats.. stunning vocals by KJY and Uma Ramanan. It has western classic interludes. In the second interlude it is flute combines with this piece. Great foot tapping song. In the first charanam in some parts we get echoed voice of KJY. May be it suits the movie situation.
Song: Pudhiya Poovidhu
Movie: Thendrale Ennai Thodu
One of my favorite IR's music arrangments. It still sounds so fresh. With crystal clear vocals from SPB and SJ without a flaw in pronunciation the song is wonderful to listen to. If you have a surround sound system this song would be doubly great.
