PP IS JUST TOO GOOD...IT TAKES A LOT OF TIME TO GROW ON YOU BUT IT IS FANTASTIC....The only let down is the moonreluthu song...i think vairamuthu should have done all the songs...his obnly song azage sugama is just immensely beautiful compared to the other songs...the lyrics touch your heart.title song is freaky!...nee thaan en desiay geetham is one of the best songs...only arr canmake songs like manamada masam...just melodiously rendered by shankar and nithyasree...too hard rock voices ound so beautiful!

pp is nowhere near duet, a musical masterpiece. anyway, the way things are moving, arr name sells whether music is up to the mark or not.

I think PP is just oki..nothing big as expected.Songs sound streotype. The moonrezhuthu number reminds me of "Aadaludan Paadalai keetu" old MGR song 'Love Check' doesn't sound rhythmic..something wrong in the song. Overall Music not trademark ARR. Maybe it wld take sometime to get in tune with the songs like most ARR albums.

Is 'azhagae sugamaa' based on Sahaana raagam?Certain lines of the song reminds me 'indha veenaikku theriyadhu'.

Love Check is a very intellectual work in Rhythm area. Unfortunately it was presented with some rap kind of music - it sucks. In general ARR has done a good job but it will not reach everyone and infact this will be considered as one of his worst bcos of the presentation - it has nice work but packaged in really ugly cover - it sucks.

on: Mon Nov 5 09:40:11 EST 2001
How ugly can it get? I think Madhavan and Simran make such a pretty couple. They are probably the best looking duo in tf. Unless, u r not talking abt the actual jewel case 'package'. Btw, something abit off topic. Isn't Madhavan and Simran the leading pair for Maniratnam's Manjal Kudai, also wit ARR?

WhyNot:
I meant the cover is not with respect the actors...ofcourse they are pretty nice couple to watch on cinema...I was mentioning about the cover in terms of the musical arrangements. It's a great let down. I am sure none of u will miss this point and everyone's opinion on this topic will be coherent. It's a nice work but presented in ugly way.

really funny...all these reviews...some are terribly disappointed, some are highly excited..and only a small group of people think it's okay...
there was this one message of a guy called 'mani'...about the psychology behind the repeated listening...well, the money factor u can forget, cause i didn't (can't) buy the cd or cassette...i just downloaded the songs...so it was kind of free...and the feeling that repeated hearing will surely make me like the songs...well, why should i think like that?
okay, let me share my views about this...
now when i first heard parthale paravasam...it sounded strange...especially this 'moonezhurethu' song, or 'love check'...it's like, actually when a new album releases u don't really know what to expect...what do the most ones do? either they expect the last good album they heard of this particular md (in this case ARR), or just the last one, or, as it is in this very special case, the last KB-ARR combination (duet), and try to compare the new one with the old one...but ARR is someone who experiments the whole time (this we know, i think)...so the new album just can't be like the old one...and at the first hearing, as it so new to u, and as u had expected this one to be like the old one, u feel disappointed that it is not like the old one, but at the first hearing u can't hear out the brilliance of the new one (cause u are disappointed about it not being like the old one)....so u need to hear the songs again and again to forget the old one and to get used to this new style....and after hearing it more often, u can then decide, either u like this new style of rahman, or u don't like it...that's it.
but i must admit...even if ARR once does crap...it may be that i will like it, cause this relationship to his music has become so deep...that i may even except crap...only, it should be from ARR (like this, i even liked thenali, which almost everyone calls crap)
all my views...

ARR experiments and he did in this album too. But the difference it was presented in wrong manner unlike his earlier ones. Let's not get carried away with this presentation as an experiment. This has nice work but it will not reach everyone. IMHO he could present this one different way. Infact I liked azhagan sugame a lot and the only one which is presented in his way.
That's it.

i still don't get what u mean with 'present this one in different way'...what do u mean? 'presented in wrong manner'....:???? 'nice work but will not reach everyone'...if it's a nice work then where is the problem?
u wrote some messages above 'musical arrangement was a let down'...what do u mean? the recording? the instruments ARR used?
and in which (exact) way should ARR have presented this 'nice work'? what is ur suggestion? please clarify...

PP is a very good one ,as a musician I find it more interesting ,the way ARR has used some instruments are simply mind blowing.
For example the hip song 'Nathir dhina-Love check' use of Chendai for spanish beat is very cool.
The song 'Anbae Sugama' is a very melodious one with rich ambient sound to it and some great violin peice to it.
He has used Trumpets almost in every song of this movie, some are very latin style and others simply sync beautifully with the songs.
New singer Balram has done a beautiful job in the song 'Neethan En'.
Hopefully we will see more of him in future.
overall nice album.

Disappointment
The Manmada Masam is not Hamsadwani its actually resembles more of Lathangi (sa ri ga pa tha ni sa)there is not deivadham in hamsadhawni.
My only complaint is Nithyasri sounds very stereotype(how many songs with her voice with same type of singing i mean ezthu ezthu padaranga) and Mahadevan goes off the note esp
when he says 'Oorariyum' seperately should be of the same note wonder why ARR let that go?

Subbu styla.?!
Most of the albums oflate doesnt hit by first listen ,it takes a while before it sinks in as what the md has composed like slow poison!?
thats the situation as in our everday life quality is degraded everywhere .
Only Md atleast makes some attempt or experimentaion is ARR others just follow
but like hear ur analysis more before mine anyway
Did you listen to my new peice 'Salute to Mother'?

UV San ( Japanese Style Respect ):-)
For me, Rehman's music has always been very special. Even in this kind of album I find some good. But somehow it lacked the expression in the name of experimentation especially in the worst scores of this album that I mentioned. There can be one or two depending on the story but if it exceed more than the good ones in the album...it isn't welcoming. ARR is good and if he steps in doing such things...imagine the followers:-))
Hey I asked u first and so my analysis follows urs.
Salute to Mother - It's good. Anyway I will post it in the amateur composers thread.

Aditya

UV & Aditya:
Is the "Jothi Nilavu" song from 12B [andha Sukwhinder paatu] and "Athisaya Thirumanam" from P.Paravasam based on the same raga or something?
- From: Aditya (@ 160.231.5.181)
on: Mon Nov 5 16:31:38 EST 2001
Kitcha:
They are different. And it's difficult to attach these songs to one particular raga. However it appears to me as below:
- Athisaya pallavi is in Natai ( ChalaNatai ) and the charanam is in some harikhamboji janya raga...sounds like behag to my ears. For ARR kind of talent, who did wonders, has really failed in building vocal harmony in the pallavi here. try it...u won't enjoy those low base chanting kind of vocals in the background in the pallavi - they didn't match in particular...What's happening? Have I missed something or is that ARR's music.
- Jothi Nilavu seems to be in Abheri.
Anyway I need to give a better listening on PP because ARR can't be so low - this is my belief.
Regards,
Aditya
